I think I may have posted this before but I ended up using Claude to automate pulling down receipts for my monthly expense report because manually tracking them down was a PITA. This, not trying to replace artists, is the real kind of stuff LLMs are useful for.

this is going to end up banal but what a world it would have been if the people who YOLO'd consumer LLMs with the pitch "this can automate the boring shit you don't want to do" had a definition of "boring shit" that was "set up AWS creds" instead of "art, music, socializing, raising children"

If a candidate loses the primary and then the winner goes on to lose the general, that is a data point you need to consider going forward, but it does not imply that the loser of the primary would have in turn won, I hope this has been a helpful recap for everyone.

If “party leadership and centrists immediately fall behind El-Sayed to defeat the Republican” does not align with your priors about the Democratic Party you should both reflect on why and also update those priors

It gets an actual chuckle out of me seeing people on here say "now the TRUE test is whether the shitlibs can live up to their own words and line up behind El-Sayed!" only for Stevens, Whitmer, every prominent Michigan Dem, the DSCC, etc. to have endorsed El-Sayed before they can finish the sentence.

not breaking new ground with this observation but its so exceedingly clear for a lot of the online left that they just fundamentally do not see Republicans winning elections as a deal breaker

Important for all Democrats to unite around the simple truth that it it’s important for Abdul El-Sayed to win his election to help make Chuck Schumer the most powerful Democrat in the country

Chipotle has removed jalapeños from restaurants as officials investigate 110 cases of salmonella potentially tied to the restaurant. This comes after the Trump administration disbanded the DOJ office in charge of food safety enforcement.

*skips past all the flashing warning signs that any veteran with a brain kept saying was a huge no-go* "Oh yeah, the reason was 100% because he was a veteran. Fuck veterans. I hate everybody who served. Let's give the rapist the last word on the matter for fairness tho."

A watershed piece. America will have have a very hard time becoming less imperialist as long as combat service is sentimentalized and fetishized, when it actually tends to turn men into broken, hateful people, and helps make things like like Trumpism happen. www.newyorker.com/news/the-pol...

Anyway silly of me to think that these people wanting to welcome RFK Jr. cultists into the tent is about them fetishizing how Authentic and Populist and Masculine they are over the smoothgroin cringe libs who believe in modern medicine.

There would be some real irony if The American Century of Humiliation gets called off because Trump negatively polarized the US into supporting immigration right as China enters a demographics crunch. Extra points if that dynamic leads to outmigration from China to the US.

Sure would be awkward if China were facing a demographic crisis that could be easily solved by embracing immigration from Africa but they chose to stoke xenophobia & nationalism instead

These videos are so similar to the anti-immigrant and anti-Black ones slopped out by our own nationalist authoritarians that it really feels like the only thing keeping them from uniting as an even greater worldwide menace is their own foundational racism.

Chinese viral AI videos are turning foreigners into villains, flooding Chinese social media. They depict foreigners as threats to China’s social, moral, and national order. Strong, confident Chinese people confront, violently beat, and humiliate them in defense of their country. See more below🧵
