Lipids build the membranes of all cells, but identifying their precise functions is extremely challenging. Here’s our attempt to change that: How to find and understand lipid-protein interactions, by Katelyn Cook & company. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

We built a a self-dividing synthetic cell ! Check out this #CDlab preprint on BioRxiv: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... Great work by 1st author Charu Sharma who encoded dynaminA in a genome and expressed that in liposomes that then divide into daughter cells! Collaboration with Koenderink lab!
1/ The world's songbirds sing in just 8 basic sounds. And where a bird lives decides which ones it uses. My first PhD paper is out now in @science.org (www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.aee6239) Here is what we found:

America's chief Middle East negotiator - Jared Kushner - is almost completely dependent on Middle East government investment in his chief business. It's probably the biggest conflict of interest in American diplomatic history and we should be talking about this way more.
The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world.

Die Spritpreise sind jetzt so hoch wie noch nie. Wären die Grünen jetzt an der Regierung, wären die jetzt schuld daran gewesen. So ist das halt der mysteriöse Markt, gegen den man nichts machen kann …
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
Jeder Machtkampf in der AfD dreht sich zwischen denjenigen, die für die reichen Deutschen sind und denjenigen für das Deutsche Reich.
It’s incredibly hard to study lipids in biological membranes on the nanoscale. You need near-perfect information on both membrane ultrastructure and lipid density. Lipid-CLEM, now out in @natcellbio.nature.com brought to you by @mathilda95.bsky.social changes that: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
In our latest preprint we show that Lifeact::mKate2 can reverse the chirality of active torques in the actomyosin cortex. This results in cortical flows with opposite handedness during left-right symmetry breaking, leading to the formation of situs inversus worms. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Arittri's amazing finding that our old friend Lifeact can make actomyosin flow in the opposite direction, change chirality and flip left and right in the C.elegans worm. Check out here for more details: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Just got back from the traditional post-prandial constitutional at the @mpipks.bsky.social #biophysics retreat. Photo illustrates visibility on the slopes of the Fichtelberg and @larshubatsch.bsky.social trying to figure out whether we were still on a path...
Fantastic and snowy two-hour “evening constitutional” at the @mpipks.bsky.social Biological Physics retreat in Oberwiesenthal! Great chatting with Pierre @lepuslapis.bsky.social and Christina Kurzthaler

90% of you probably don’t need to read this. But maybe some of you are curious & 10% will feel seen. Or a little less alone. This isn’t about seeking sympathy. It’s about sharing something hard to say out loud; partly to heal, partly in case someone needs to hear it too. (1/3) tinyurl.com/DudinO
