It's time again! Cis allies: if you can, please consider being chaff for us. Toilet hobbycops think like 10% of people are trans, and to overturn our segregation we need respectable cis people causing trouble on our behalf. Please wear a trans flag pin. Get in good trouble, as John Lewis put it.

THE CHAFF PROJECT Hi! Are you cis in the UK and you'd like to support trans rights? Great! How: buy a trans flag pin and wear it in public. Why: chaff is an overwhelming amount of false positives so that when a missile gets close to the plane, it hits the chaff and not the plane.

Giving at talk at UCSD this Thurs on early modern green-sickness (aka"the disease of the virgins"), pathologizations of #asexuality, and em love poetry. Finalized my ppt this morning, and happy I've finally managed to create a rough visualization of something I've been struggling to articulate:

We're all trying to be careful with our language, so as not to offend, or not to lose federal funding for talking about paragraph transitions. To help you out, here's a worksheet to guide you in swapping out troublesome phrases for real, historical eel expressions. 🗃️🧪

Worksheet titled: "Evolving from Eel-less Language" and it includes a column titled "Instead of" with a red X, and a column titled "Say this" with a green checkmark. The "Instead of" column includes sayings like "You're doing it wrong" and "Look at those used condoms in the water!" The "Say this" column includes sayings like, "You're grabbing an eel by the tail" and "Hey! Manhattan eels!" I don't have the space here to list all of them. But each expression in the "Say this" column is a bonafide (read that in a Wharvey Gal's accent) historical eel metaphor. We'd all be better off if we talked more about eels.

Having watched @liesljensen.bsky.social's fantastic presentation at the Early Modern Asexualities conference about an asexual reading of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, it is truly powerful to see asexual voices speaking not just to asexuality as a focus of study, but also in their personal experience.
