30s non-binary trans woman (it/she) Trying to figure out a future worth living in

The next 5-10 years are going to be deeply frustrating until the AI bubble's damage is cleared out. But also, seeing EA burn down in flames has a certain Schadenfreude to it.

It's demoralizing living in a nonstop Abuse-a-thon: we've had to learn the sordid details of so many men's abhorrent behavior; I mean this summer has been Graham Platner, Andrew Tate, Jared Leto, Max Miller, plus the horrific L.A. rape-murder of the child by the rapper, to name a few lowlights.

“Deaths are increasing faster than the detained population,” Physicians for Human Rights continues, “pushing the mortality rate in ICE custody to its highest level in nearly two decades, higher even than at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Edwin Lopez-Cornejo’s death in ICE custody “is a terrible reminder of the lethality of the United States’ rapidly expanding immigration detention system and should not be treated as an isolated tragedy,” says @p4hr.bsky.social: phr.org/news/deaths-...

I’m reaching a point where I feel so much shame and exhaustion just from the thought of having to put up another “please send me money” post. Please send me $142 so I can reserve the last two nights at this place before I have to move. Or something. I don’t know. I can’t keep this up.😭😞

Perpetually linking ICE activity to mid 20th century Nazism misses over a hundred years of US immigration law based on racial exclusion AND the very real policies of US empire both domestic and abroad. The US held Haitian asylum seekers in detention camps in Cuba for years as recently as the 90s.

When you pass the buck of American imperialism to the German Nazis, you don't just draw attention to how bad the US has become, you exonerate both the Nazis and the historic imperialists/authoritarians of your own country, since the former were inspired by the latter.

The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor

The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

So no more half-measures, no more politeness, and no more fucking meeting in the middle. Every tradition weighing upon the world today like a rusted yoke must be named and uprooted and purged, and every doddering fence-sitter pushed over the edge with the rest of the sun-baked garbage.

People who wanted to be seen as good and progressive but were moral cowards. People scared to name the festering rot of religious conservatism eating away at the world, or the bloodsoaked patriarchal frenzy that rose in response to the most meager of gains. Everyone eager to declare history over.

The road to fascism was paved with "Reddit atheist" and "shrill feminist" and "blue hair and pronouns". The vanguard wasn't the rabid reactionaries. It was the "normals", "apoliticals", who tolerate occasional sexist comments but mock the "cringe" of well-meaning and earnest but awkward people.
