AI systems threaten data privacy & security even if these systems lack an agentic component but AI agents possess the ability to manipulate a user’s digital systems autonomously & continuously, expanding threats that evade existing regulatory regimes. We wrote about it here: fftf.link/AISnitches

“A fundamental shift is needed in how we approach the development and deployment of AI agents,” argues Meredith Whittaker. “Basic lessons in privacy and digital security are being discarded,” she warns
internet posters will be fighting in the Michigan primary trenches all the way to November and beyond meanwhile the actual candidates ten nanoseconds after polls close:
for those who celebrate: it is the 20th anniversary of a funny dog eat a pepsi.
daily reminder that if you've had respiratory issues in the past, long covid, or you have immune issues/chronic illness - its ok to wear a proper particulate mask outside when the smoke is above 150aqi tbh everyone should be wearing a kn95 or particulate/smoke mask above 100aqi
if AI disappeared tomorrow, google searches would work again and voice navigation in my car wouldn't suck
As I've said before, I don't see the KIDS Act nor Senate KOSA passing as they are currently written. The only ways they'll pass are if 1: One chamber makes a deal with another and compromises on their version of KOSA or 2: They try to sneak it in via a rider to a must-pass bill.
SCREEN failed to pass out of committee, despite a 15-13 vote (in favor). Not enough members voting, but looks like a party line vote. Good work everyone! Keep up the pressure for after recess and beyond!
If SCREEN were to pass, you'd be required to scan your face and upload an ID to access this site because it allows "harmful" material. This affects you even if you don't care about sex work or porn.
Recapping the Senate Commerce Committee hearing: KOSA advanced unanimously, as expected. Youth AI Privacy Act, CHATBOT Act, AI Toy Safety Act all advanced SCREEN Act passed 15-13 on party lines, but there weren't enough people present so it doesn't advance. Not sure of the implications.
On KOSA I'm still where I was before the markup: if we keep the pressure on we can kill it again. The House really hates the Senate's version ... and we're stronger now than we were in 2024, and we blocked it then. On the SCREEN Act, bsky.app/profile/then...
It was very encouraging that no D's voted for the SCREEN Act. That matters, because it can't get through the Senate without D support.
Remember, even if KOSA passes the Senate -- by itself or as part of the broader kids safety package they were talking about -- it still has to get through the House. If we keep the pressure up, we have a good chance to stop it again.

Mike Lee's SCREEN Act, which heads to Senate Commerce Committee for markup on Wednesday, would expand age verification requirements to a nearly limitless scope of websites, and is supported by the architects of Project 2025.
The SCREEN Act is a Christian Nationalist Nightmare

This will be the US if the SCREEN Act passes. Call your Senators before August 5 and tell them that you oppose the SCREEN Act, KOSA, and the KIDS Act. Use the official lookup tool at www.senate.gov/senators/sen... to find yours by state.
Why are Abdul El Sayed and Mamdani so utterly terrifying to the Democratic Establishment and its corporate donors? Ask yourselves.
STREAM TIME!!! Electrician Simulator played by an actual electrician where I'll try to remember to check this beaten up old electrical standards book to see if everything's up to code... For my country anyway. Over at www.twitch.tv/papabray
English dialogue for Pekora in Hololive Dreams doesn't have enough "peko" in it. Though Calliope's holomem quest thing was actually hilarious and in-character.
I heard you like lights, so I gave you more light with your light. Here is a VRSL wash light with a individual lutbeam object per individual lense, giving you light interference visuals and alot more complex light behaviour than if there was just one lutbeam
Adam Conover is pissing people off again, a la Adam Ruins Everything Hank Green admitted to using AI Ken Jennings got a bunch of people to harass a trans person what the fuck

"saudi arabia owns EA" is going to be the headline you see basically everywhere for this one but "jared kushner is about to use EA as a vehicle for trump administration bribes" is equally relevant imo

So Subway in Canada is selling hot dogs on subs as part of a sponsorship with the Toronto Blue Jays. And they're calling it a "subdog". The jokes write themselves.
