👀👇 Great public service. Been helping a friend whose husband recently died - and then she fell and hit her head. He did all their banking stuff so I was helping her transfer money. Did a search for the bank's name and got a page full of AI garbage, no direct link to the bank. Infuriating.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
Governor Spanberger’s announcement comes just four months before a ballot measure that could ensure people can vote as soon as they leave prison, ending the governors’ discretion to restrict or expand voting rights at their pleasure.
Virginia Governor Restores Voting Rights for Thousands With Past Felony Convictions - Bolts
This is the only state that was banning people convicted of any felony from voting for life. Virginians have an opportunity to end that system for good in November.

"We keep asking why there is not more outrage. Maybe outrage is not an unlimited resource. Alarm fatigue teaches people to discount the warning. Disaster fatigue leaves them too exhausted to respond even when they believe it. Authoritarianism benefits from both."

Near the ICE facility in Broadview, IL, protesters just marched again in memory of those killed by immigration enforcement. Marchers hold tombstone signs labeled with, and recite the names of over 200 dead since 2018.

If someone told me they had a box of Thin Mints with my name on it, awaiting my death to be opened and savored in a celebratory milkshake while the person, presumably, cackles, I would change my whole life immediately. Faster than GoC Future & Co's whole gravestone and bed sheets bit. ASAP.
I checked the Somber Reflections stack and Lindsey has his own box! Can’t remember exactly what he did to earn it but it must have pissed me off but good. Milkshake time!
📣 HEY ICE AIR PILOTS ‼️ 📖 14 CFR § 91.3(a) The pilot in command of an aircraft is directly responsible for, and is the final authority as to, the operation of that aircraft. 🤨 Are you really just gonna lock that door and ignore all the abuse and safety violations happening in the cabin? 1/5
“The Readmission Acts for …Arkansas … contain[s] the same limits on felony disenfranchisement as Virginia’s.” 1/4
NEW: After the Civil War, Congress readmitted the southern states under a key condition: don't expand felony disenfranchisement. But the states quickly violated their promise & weaponized criminal statutes to skew elections. It finally caught up with one of them this year. Fascinating read:

"To counteract authoritarianism, we must model a world that looks like the one we want to build collectively... a place where neighbors know each other and come together in the service of others...where we all think about ourselves a whole lot less and about others a whole lot more." Exactly.
“The better our members knew each other, the more likely they would be to show up to the next event. And the better they knew each other, the less likely they would be to walk away, giving in to despair about the future.” www.liberalcurrents.com/rebuilding-c...
I now fervently believe this. Relatedly, I think celebrating good news and embracing joy are equally radical. You have to remember what you’re fighting for. We cannot sustainably organize around sorrow.
I’m coming to understand that maintaining hope is radical.

“[T]here are two motions to the universe: getting smaller or getting bigger. The authoritarian strategy relies on a particular theory: Repress, and people will get smaller. They will hide. They will stop.” In Arkansas, we’re getting bigger. (Story below.)
In response to the Trump administration’s attempts to quell dissent and tilt the playing field, people are not shrinking in fear, but getting more bold in their resistance, writes Daniel Hunter.
