The modern Conservative Party, where Net Zero gets you out and Neo Nazism gets you in
I just can’t believe we’re seeing this sort of stuff from a sitting MP Just want to say to British Somalis that you are loved and I’m so, sorry this is happening.
Reform MP Robert Jenrick: “Rod Liddle said the unsayable truth years before anyone else would come close.” Rod Liddle on child abuse images: “We should not be in the business of putting people in prison for simply looking at things."
Sad to see LibDems jump on the prison panic bandwagon. "We know some prisoners must be released earlier, but not them, or them, or him, or her, or them, etc..." is an infinite loop that destroys public trust. Also potentially dangerous, as it throttles arrest/prosecution/sentencing at the other end.
Oops. We developed new technologies as if we were communists believe that they would reduce human toil, and create conditions for flourishing lives. But actually they dominate us, alienate us from each other, reduce us to servants to machines, and diminish our creativity, just as Marx noted in 1844.

(I get that Bluesky is very obviously the Wow We Loved Lockdowns website but I think it's absolutely fine, five years after the fact, to wonder if we got the balance right between "protecting older people" and "making sure younger people weren't getting entirely shafted", arguments are allowed)
If replicated in a General Election, this poll would see Labour fall just 18 seats short of an overall majority.

It’s weird how “influencer” can mean a young woman who’s really into cool T-shirts or a brainless Dubai grifter or an actual Nazi. It really runs the gamut

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?
This has really pissed me off, if you're in the area and can afford it go and give the cafe owner some money to help fund the kids meals. And if he refuses buy yourself a nice coffee and tip him as much as you can. Fuck Reform taking food from kids in need. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

lord, grant me the self-confidence of a young man in a three-quarter zip, who worked for FTX, then got fired from OpenAI, then set up a fund called *Situational Awareness*. we're all doing the imposter syndrome thing and these guys are... not
Not sure who did this but they should be arrested immediately.
Dear UK Politicians Could you all grow up and stop reporting each other to the police for trivial nonsense. We would rather they focus on more important matters. Thanks The electorate.
Burnham's comments today were a kind of anti-populism: a rejection of easy answers, an acknowledgment of trade-offs and a commitment to solve seemingly-intractable problems. Early days, but incredibly refreshing.
On Burnham’s social care speech today, it was deeply refreshing to see him make a point to thank immigrants who provide social care. I hope that reflects where we go with ILR bill but beyond that it is good to hear gratitude and openness rather than scapegoating and penny pinching.
Terrified of feeling this hopeful and optimistic about politics right now.
Apprentices will now be eligible for a £4,500 bursary, so that there's no longer a financial disincentive to take up an apprenticeship. Seems eminently sensible, especially for a government looking to promote technical post-16 routes. www.gov.uk/government/n...

Sensible policy klaxon 🚨 Currently, if a 16 year old chooses to stay in school/college, their family can keep claiming benefits as before (notably child benefit). If they opt for an apprenticeship, the benefits stop. The system discourages apprenticeships. The DWP just announced a fix 🧵
Burnham: "Social care in England is as unfair as American healthcare." It's a very good line.
