Folks, the US lost to Iran, decisively, and there is no way to un-lose now by any practical means. The IRI is the hegemon of the Gulf Arabs now. The Strait of Hormuz will not be free again in my lifetime. Freedom of navigation is dead as international norm. He ruined the world. Best to make do.
I refuse to accept this from a man internationally known for the sodomy of living room furniture
This ship is a waste of money, a terrible idea that will probably never get built. But I don't think that's the point - the point is to convince Trump and an increasingly senile American leadership that we still have a powerful navy. With Battleships, even!

I'm really hoping that @semperfitrex is just taking a break and hasn't left here for good.
I think many of our allies are currently working quietly to distance themselves from the US, and will be taking action on those plans in the next 3-5 years. So if a Democrat wins in 2028, there's a chance he or she will have to deal with diminished military readiness and diplomatic setbacks.
I know it sucks, but Dems have got to be prepared to inherit a munitions-and-readiness hole that is going to be expensive to fill, but which will need to be filled. Hardly the only such hole, but it will be a big one.
"We love our troops don't we folks support the troops our brave men and women in uniform stand for them stand for the troops their sacrifice inspires us" it was all bullshit this entire time. A joke to all of them
TRUMP IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN DETAINS 50+ FAMILY MEMBERS OF U.S. TROOPS: AP
Politics is fun because it's like THE FORCES OF SOCIETY and TEST OF THE ZEITGEIST and then it's a one percent margin that could have broken differently if the role of Haley Stevens was played by someone not cast for "weird and off-putting intensity" who raves about Israel coming to her in her dreams
the intentional abdication by Congress of nearly all of its constitutional responsibilities is at the core of most of our problems as a nation
Cornyn: "There's nothing we could do to rein in the president"
This may be a website for the most humorless liberal scolds on earth, but it is also a website for 38-year-old mil history aficionados who instantly know what this is referring to
I forgot how much of a shitshow Leyte Gulf was…not exactly Halsey’s finest hour lol
This is a 1,600 bed facility, so it will instantly become one of ICE's largest facilities. It will also be one of (if not the actual) largest ICE jail/prison in the midwest.
🚨ICE has awarded CoreCivic $536.2 million to operate the Prairie Correction Facility in Appleton, Minnesota as an immigration jail. The period of performance begins August 11.
Trump does not "joke". He tests boundaries of what is acceptable, then his enablers downplay it.
The media and MAGA like to write off Trump’s outrageous comments as “joking” when he’s actually telling us the ways he intends to ruin our country. My Stop the Presses newsletter.
Ossoff and Pritzker take a step forward.
There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines. I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.
“It’s not a fight between left and right, it’s between top and bottom. Which is why I met with a bunch of plague cultists for the most powerful man in the entire world.”
Sure the MAHA activists want to make it illegal for trans people to access hormones but they're so authentic and populist about it so
Halsey when he heard the word “carrier“ and “Japanese” in the same sentence
Halsey said I'm getting my carrier fight fuck you all
Isekai as a genre is exploding in popularity because it appeals to a universal desire to get hit by a truck rather than live in the 21st century.
it's so fucked up in so many ways including the many times where it's like "haw haw you will be so miserable being deported to this hellhole full of mud people" and then the people there actually show them humanity and compassion not possessed by us americans
These third country deportations are among the most evil acts of the Trump administration. They're trying to extrajudicially punish people for seeking asylum, up to and including with death.

The US military can't win wars, can't be relied on to protect our republican form of government, but it *can* annoy people with dangerously low flyovers!
Hegseth: "The flyovers will indeed continue until morale improves"
There are a lot of people who were capable of being open-minded when Arabs and Muslims were simply the *subject* of US policy but whose response to those communities having an active role in American politics on par with other ethnic and faith groups has been to totally lose their shit.
I'ts hard to escape the impression that a certain faction of the Democratic Party just straight up does not believe that Arabs specifically -- and perhaps Muslims generally -- have a place as active players in American politics
What I am hearing about from folks in uniform is a new secret vetting process where people in the Department of Defense are looking at someone’s social media history. Looking at whether they attended a Pride event or posted something on their personal Facebook page about Martin Luther King Day.
