Something primal moved through EJ Su's hands when he drew these panels. He took the idea of "a truck turns into a robot and that robot has a gun" and made it look as cool as it possible could. He perfected it!

Panels from The Transformers: Escalation #5. Optimus Prime, in truck mode, moves in reverse from enemy fire and begins transforming into robot mode, jumping into the air and maintaining his backwards momentum. As he transforms, his gun pops out of his back and begins transforming as well. Once he has fully reached robot mode, Optimus grabs the gun from midair and dramatically swings his arm around to aim it.
