I carried my fear of the world to my children, but they refused it. I carried my fear of the world on my chest, where I once carried my children, where some nights it slept as newborns sleep, where it purred but mostly growled, where it licked sweat from my clavicles.

I remember my dad, texting me from the emergency room, where he was waiting in the hall to be seen because there was no available space, telling me about the bodies they kept wheeling past him.
My experience is of every American COVID-19 mitigation effort being obviously insufficient, and ended far too soon. To see people now argue that they somehow were too much, going too far? Not anti-vax or MAGA people, but folks just out here on Bluesky? It staggers me.
There’s no such thing as recovering from a trauma while still actively taking part in perpetuating it, so if you want us to get to the point where we can start dealing with the emotional effects of Covid, start taking the current, ongoing harm, discrimination, and endangerment seriously.
I’m intrigued by the recent resurgence of the ‘Long Covid is not real’ nonsense we saw back in 20/21. The refusal to learn is one thing, but the dismissal of reality is another. Long Covid is too painful, too common & too present in many people’s lives to be denied. The story is hard to rewrite.
🧵Long Covid: Real! Very real. Life-wreckingly / (at best) life-alteringly real. Often invisible. Still real. Often baffling. Still real. Deeply uncomfortable to consider. Still real. Deeply inconvenient for all concerned. Still real. And (hey now!) even recognized as such by Western medicine*
So, the internet is suddenly full of people questioning #LongCOVID, and all I can say is: How lucky you are not to have had understanding forced upon you! I wish you well dealing with disability when it strikes you unawares in future & hope you meet with more compassion than you are showing now. ♥️

meanwhile,Texas just up and happily handed them over without considering how we might feel about it, seriously this state needs an intervention
The DOJ is now 0-20 in court trying to access states' voter files. They've lost in: Arizona California Colorado Connecticut Illinois Kentucky Maine Maryland Massachusetts Michigan New Hampshire New Jersey New Mexico New York Oregon Pennsylvania Rhode Island Virginia West Virginia Wisconsin

Outraged Tarrant County voter asking GOP officials lots of good questions about cuts to polling locations that they have not answered:
Lon Burnam, a former state lawmaker representing Tarrant County from 1997 to 2015, was carried out of the room by four sheriff deputies, who held him by his hands and feet: fortworthreport.org/2026/08/04/t...

Former state lawmaker Lon Burnam was carried out of the courtroom by sheriff deputies after O’Hare called speakers disruptive.

O'Hare just warned that deputies are prepared to arrest people. So far, he's flipped out twice: 1) a speaker said "bullshit" 2) a speaker compared Tarrant County Republicans to Russia
I covered Harris County Commissioners Court for 2.5 years and never once saw them "clear the chamber" like this
They're probably hoping you won't hear about this. But tomorrow in TX, Tarrant County officials meet to vote on a GOP plan to cut almost HALF of Election Day voting locations, plus 8 early voting locations, some of them on campuses. Not hard to guess why. fortworthreport.org/2026/07/30/t...

In TX: Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare just CLEARED the meeting room, kicking out public speakers who are opposed to the GOP plan to cut half of the battleground county's Election Day voting locations for November:
NEW: Israel has imprisoned an American teen. Soldiers raided Adam's West Bank home right before his sister’s grad party. They ignored his US passport. As they took him, they blew kisses at his mom. Adam is now the second American in Israeli prison. Trump just hosted Netanyahu for the eighth time.

My god this attorney was so sure he could lead this witness to the conclusion he wanted her to testify to, and I just don’t think it ever occurred to him that she would reject his most foundational premises like “nah but it ain’t like that tho”

This is such bullshit. During the pandemic, we were down here reporting on how the University of Mississippi Medical Center had to turn its PARKING GARAGE into a makeshift ICU to handle the COVID surges. Lying about history I lived pisses me off. www.mississippifreepress.org/ummc-preppin...

We opened an ICU that had been shuttered for well over a decade so that a hospital that has 18 MICU beds could fit 46 patients on ventilators
