An odd machine that dispenses unsolicited pop culture opinions, illustrations, comics, and various miscellany. Fueled by his wife, movies, single malt scotch, and steak.

With no music yet, no lore to speak of, and no animations, it seems pretty clear that our selling point will be the 'curb appeal' of these designs. Here's hoping and praying that it's enough.

It's been little over a year. It's fun to see how much I've had to get away from the initial idea, and how much I doggedly stuck to the inherent nature of the trash I wanted to make

Been busy working on a joint project with my brothers, a Survivorslike we hope to have a demo for in about a month! Expect some stuff about that going up as I gauge interest, see what kind of response it'll have from a limited public.

Suicide Squad (2016) was the only movie I've ever considered just walking out of, and I grew up with Philippine cinema. The only thing that kept me in my seat was that I was my brother's ride, and it didn't feel fair to let him suffer alone

It's technically SHOWGIRLS, but MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION was a significantly worse experience. We expected a tight martial-arts fantasy and we got a community theater production.

Hey, let's talk about money and @skyboxcritics.com again. Last month, we hit $250 a month! Yay! This month, we're below that again. I'm not shaming anyone; times are hard. But the reality is Skybox operates at a loss that I make up personally, and that's becoming more and more unsustainable. 1/X

It'd be interesting if this were to end the HD era. We've been talking in some corners of this space for a hot minute about how graphics have plateaued, but now's a good time for mainstream lo-fi: games with stylized visuals that could run on a toaster. Because that's what your audience can afford.

Sorry, folks, video game industry analysts are telling us that gaming hardware is going to keep getting more expensive, and the price hikes probably aren't going to stop until at least 2028. https://kotaku.com/analysts-gaming-hardware-more-expensive-2028-2000702104

Desktop computers that you can still enforce your will on as to what they do and what they are not allowed to do are the only computers that should exist. The black-boxing of computers into unrepairable, un-upgradeable toys like iPads/Chromebooks has harmed our ability to problem-solve for ourselves

What’s your most old-coded opinion? Mine is that the Apple Watch is the least value added product* on the market today. It’s like what if you had a Fitbit with a bunch of apps you never used and you have to charge it twice a day? *over something like a basic Fitbit

There’s only one elegant solution to this problem of increasingly stupid audiences, and that’s to mandate that every film ends with a closing rap song that lays out all the moral lessons of the movie. There will be a government office that reviews the songs for aural and pedagogical value.

wtf

The real theme of the modern age is "Nobody Wants This". AI, ICE in airports, ICE in general, the Iran War, data centers sending actual cities wiht people into blackouts -- "nobody" wants this. And yet here we are.

Hey, let's talk about money and @skyboxcritics.com, because unless you're one of the big indie outlets, money's hard: Right now, Skybox makes about $180 a month from our Patreon. That's it. That's not a lot! In fact, it doesn't cover our operating costs! Skybox has never made a profit. Ever. 🧵

I've been meaning to print this out and post it above my writing desk. From Stephen King's DANSE MACABRE: creative talent is a knife. (It's a very Stephen King sort of analogy, and this is from deep within his cocaine years. Even so, this thought has never left me in 30 years.)

"Talent is a dull knife that will cut nothing unless it is wielded with great force... Discipline and constant work are the whetstones upon which the dull knife of talent is honed until it becomes sharp enough to cut through even the toughest meat and gristle."
