Former Musician Former Academic Former Letter Carrier [He/Him]

There's no forgiving this. No living it down. It's a stain on our humanity. When all this is over, the monsters who did this should be pariahs. And the soulless thugs who cheered it on while dehumanizing Haitian immigrants should be reminded of what they did every day of their lives.

The situation in Haiti is terrifying. On Sunday, 150 gunmen swept down on a town to kill, rape, loot, and burn. 22 people were executed in a churchyard. 52 were taken hostage. Stephen Miller mockingly says Haiti is safe and ICE just sent its second deportation flight this month; with kids on board.

Jesus Christ. I was just talking with my wife about structural problems in our medical system—her late mother was a nurse, fired and blacklisted for union organizing. But even organizing can't solve it; Unions look out for their members, but who looks out for patients? There's no Patient Union...

for anyone following along, i sent this email to the ER doctor who shared with me the news of my miscarriage:

In 1626 a cod bought in Cambridge market was found to have inside its gullet a soggy packet containing religious tracts by John Frith, executed in 1533 for Protestant leanings - ironically during the reign of Henry VIII. I can see no propaganda value in the yarn - perhaps it's true? #WyrdWednesday

The title page pf 'Vox Piscis or The Book-Fish' published in 1627. An engraving shows the cod slit open with a little book inside it.

Video of an ICE agent pulling a gun on a wife and mother, who is a US citizen born and raised in the area, near Bailey's Crossroads in Northern Virginia yesterday. Chillingly, they claimed she “almost ran them over” until she told them she had video proving that was a lie.

One of my favorite #Roman objects: World's oldest known "Swiss army knife", including a hinged knife, fork, spoon, spike, prick, sieve, spatula. Unfortunately, there is no provenance of this multi-tool, but it’s not a unique item: There are a few more examples, e.g. one was...🧵1/2 🏺 #archaeology

The folding multi-tool, it is built around a silver handle and a set of folding, pivoted implements. Its most visible feature is the broad oval spoon at the left; additional utensils fold from the opposite end and beneath the handle. A dark, heavily corroded piece along the top is the original iron knife blade.

whenever someone tells you that it's simply impossible for police to be charged with misconduct or criminal charges, you can tell they're wrong because some cops do get charged regularly — when they are whistleblowers or reformers prosecutors are actually extremely eager to help drum them out!

Prosecutors charged an LAPD officer with felony eavesdropping for making secret recordings of his colleagues’ racist, sexist and homophobic comments on the job

I find the story of Hegelochus unreasonably funny. Imagine dying and the only trace of you millennia later is the time you accidentally said you saw a weasel in a tragic play in front of a packed audience, because people mocked you about it for centuries. (Thread for ease)

Hegelochus: The Ancient Greek Actor We Only Know About Because He Really, Really Fluffed Up His Line

Around 400 BCE, Hegelochus really messed up his line. We only know about the actor because he was mocked about it for centuries.

I mean... Mills bears a lot of responsibility for how shitty the Democratic race has been, but also anyone who didn't clock Platner as a liar is a fool. What, he "looks the part"? He "says the right stuff"? I've had months of avowed leftists saying they are unaware that politicians can lie!

This story is a nightmare. Texas cops fired dozens of tear gas grenades into an innocent woman's home. They smashed windows and drove through her front door. Her daughter's dog went deaf & blind. Then the city left her with the bill. Six years later, her saga is finally coming to an end. A thread.

Musk buying twitter, Bezos buying WaPo, Ellison buying CBS—all are less profitable now. But they’re political investments that increase the value of the new owners’ portfolios Wealth concentration makes this possible, and that’s one mechanism by which inequality destroys democracy

Nirav Shah told a private landlord forum he opposes Section 8 tenant protections and rent control, and promised to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with landlords. @strim.bsky.social says the remarks reveal a fundamental misunderstanding of Maine’s housing crisis & why he won’t rank Shah in the primary.

Strimling: Why I won’t be ranking Nirav Shah this June - Maine Beacon

Up until a few weeks ago, I’d really been puzzled about what to do about Nirav Shah in the Democratic race for governor. I have never met him, but had seen all his ads, commented on his debates, and a...
