Shell just announced £7billion in profits for just 3 months. This is largely driven by rocketing oil prices due to the Iran conflict. People are dying and millions face rising bills around the world as Shell rakes in vast profits.   These are the profits of misery.

I join you from the Blaenavon wildfire in Southeast Wales, brought to you by BP, Shell and Equinor. Though it does not look dramatic, the fire has been out of control for days - for a very particular reason. 🧵

When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.

The Times: Net zero risks blackouts. Below a photo of French wildfires.

Holiday in the climate emergency. No that’s not AI or edited, just a snapshot I just took with my phone on Lacanau beach in France. What future will this boy grow up in? It is in our hands, but time is running out.

"Our local party have decided that we won't be standing a candidate in the by-election." - Hannah Spencer outlines the Greens position for the Clacton by-election, arguing that Farage’s decision to trigger it will create turmoil for Clacton's constituents.

In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services. Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt. While Norway still owns everything and has the equivalent of £10tn. That's how privatisation 'works'.

Are the Tories dead? No, there are niches where they can hang on. Are the conditions of the Aberdeen South by-election replicable anywhere else? Maybe like two other seats. Did we have recent nationwide elections that showed the Tories are currently in very weak electoral position: Yes.

It now seems beyond any doubt that Burnham will be prime minister soon. Labour MPs will look at that result - the consolidation of the progressive vote, the swathes of ex-Reform voters returning to Labour - and they won’t be able to wait long.
