It doesn't matter if you're, like, Emily Wilson with a PhD and an Ivy League professor who can and has explained *very thoroughly* why she made certain choices, has certain views etc. and has explained them for years and in very public, free-to-read and free-to-view forums. Nope. They want monkeys.
The tiresome online discourse around translations makes it pretty clear that many people still have a very facile view of what a translator does or ought to do, that translators should be slavishly literal and strive to be invisible and as normative as possible. They think monkeys can do this job.
