i think part of this is writers who can't meaningfully revise. something feels important to state explicitly early in a draft but then you complete the draft and your explicit explanation now reads like overkill. but if you don't know how to read your work structurally as a whole, you won't catch it

It’s about time we had a reckoning with the need so many writers feel to over-explain everything aspect of their stories, even in non Weird genres. Readers don’t need to be babied. Let us figure things out. Leave room for interpretation. Over-explanation makes writing worse.
