My child has decided that they are Persephone and now spend “half the year” in one room and half in the other. Such a cool kid.
The thing that is killing good products and creating enshittification is this weird fucking idea that you can't just make a good product and sell it for what it's worth. daringfireball.net/linked/2026/... You made $10 billion? Good for you. You know what's *fine*? $1 billion.

I find Bradbury's short story There Will Come Soft Rains, which takes place today (Aug 4 2026), morbidly optimistic for two reasons: 1. People die instantly instead of dying to climate change and/or infighting and/or resource wars. 2. Smart homes work! short-stories.co/@raybradbury...
There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The voice-clock sang, breakfast was ejected, but no doors slammed. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. The house sat alone in a city of rubble and…

Guys will listen to male influencer bullshit about needing to have a six pack and manipulate everyone and meanwhile women will go “you know who is the sexiest fucking guy I’ve ever seen?” and post this
Musk and Trump probably bonded over buying games they liked playing so they could be big winning fish in their own tiny ponds.
Trump has won another gold championship at his club. He has now received 40 titles of “Biggest winner at your own clubs because you’re a pathetic manbaby”
I appreciate that when my colleagues use AI for some image concept generation, we are always, always saying, "A real artist will make this not look like AI ass" and we all immediately 1) recognize the AI concept as ass, and 2) are fully committed to making something better with a real human
We need more creative companies run on the principle that “we don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make movies.” To reverse enshittification, you gotta back Product People.
I really enjoy Emily Wilson’s essay on The Odyssey, even though I disagree with most of it. The review epitomizes the idea that knowing too much about something saps the fun out of it over time; action movies aren’t deep, and relating to something superficially is fun! www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

Mamdani heard "the pursuit of happiness" and took it literally and people are gonna die mad about it
"Helping working people to afford lives of joy” This is absolutely why Mamdani is succeeding in New York and is so beloved.
I have no sympathy for anyone involved here, but just imagine being Trump at Mar-a-Lago, which is a bit of a target rich environment for women willing to fuck rando republicans to get ahead, and being unable to get your boy laid Must’ve been one of the most befuddling experiences for Trump
It was actually Trump himself, which is even crazier newrepublic.com/post/202065/...
Rereading Lord of the Rings. I had forgotten how intensely horny Gimli is for Galadriel. People can be talking about something totally mundane and unrelated, like how rocks are hard, and then he’ll suddenly monologue about how no stone in all the mountains can ever be as hard as Galadriel makes him.
But I get a little frustrated when people are like "see, this proves all the other Dems could be Just Doing Stuff" and that's not the case. For many, many other offices Doing Fucking Anything requires navigating both a ton of veto points held by special interests and farcically constrained budgets
I’m still processing that Dispatch takes place in Torrence. I live around the corner, and I’ve been here all of three years. But living near a place that gets a health bar in a video game—plus the incredible writing, acting, and directing—has made me fall head over heels for this game.
I think as the world gets ever more ridiculous day by day, I just have this stronger and stronger urge to re-read The Man Who Was Thursday. And I think that’s healthy of me.
I know the industry is in a dire state right now for jobs but If any indie studios see this and need an additional programmer, PLEASE let me know ASAP! my partner @barndone.bsky.social is a great generalist programmer and needs a home! Vancouver on 1 salary isn't going to cut it for long 😓
I suppose this is as good a time as any to update my profile information, seeing as I was one of the 23 people laid off by Double Fine today. Twelve years ended today. I wish it could have been twelve years more.

One of the weird things about getting old is seeing other people you know get old, and thinking, man, they look old. And forgetting you do too. XD
I appreciate that this essay ends in a phrase I’ve repeated to myself thousands and thousands of times since I read it in high school, and at least one of those thousands has been the last couple years: Don’t let the bastards grind you down. ludic.mataroa.blog/blog/ai-mani...

Just an absolute shout out to everyone out there who helped manufacture doubt around the question of this guy being a Nazi, particularly after the Nazi salute.
