Sorry I'm late, what did I miss?

Apart from the ‘race realist’ Nazis targeting Arday and the press falling into a summer hunting pack, social media is filled with inauthentic, troll accounts constantly asking for verification. It’s a replay of Gamergate. Bots talking about ‘standards in journalism’

I’m sorry but the amount of academics coming out of the woodworks to solemnly and sadly agree that a literal white supremacist shouldn’t have lost their job for doing race science and being racist is fucking terrifying to me. You guys know your racialised colleagues can read your posts, right?

This is not correct, from a scholarly nor public understanding point of view, and I think it's important to be clear. Scientific Racism (or its modern monikers, e.g. HBD or Race Realism) and eugenics are related but different sets of ideas. 1/n

much as the murder of Brianna Ghey mysteriously stopped being about the climate of transphobia in the UK and became about teen access to social media, the death of Jason Arday is, equally mysteriously, no longer about racism and is becoming about free speech in academia

Going to be honest, if British academics are going to spend time signing open letters any time a Postdoc loses his post under debatable circumstances in another country, they aren’t going to have much time for their main jobs.

here is the thing. if you tell me that you believe that race is a biological category and that it is a guide to the objective superiority and inferiority of groups of people, i am not calling you a racist to *insult* you, i am calling you a racist because it best describes your beliefs.

Aparna Nair@disabilitystor1.bsky.social · 3d ago

not only that, they are demanding that they not be called racist when they are observed to be signing up to support the racist

look, obviously i'm not signing this letter in support of the white supremacist ideology of the racist who wrote it, i'm signing the letter because i trust the racist who wrote it, the one with the white supremacist ideology, when he claims to believe all people should be treated fairly and equally

It's me, Cofnas, writing about how inferior black academics have it too easy in the age of DEI from my position at Ghent University, where despite being famously a pair of calipers away from preaching perfect Aryan skullshapes I was hired to research <checks notes> "the future of liberalism".

There has been a significant breakdown of anti-racism norms in British politics and it’s impossible not to see a connection with how X has changed as a platform and the unwillingness of gatekeepers in Westminster to speak up.

This is the quality of online discourse behind inventing "Yookay" as a pejorative for Britain & ethnic minorities who think they are British. But we now have peers & MPs starting to use it bsky.app/profile/sund...

It's worse than that. Philp isn't dumb, he's ambitious and a coward. So he says stuff he knows isn't true to try and further his career. He along with many others has driven the right down a cul-de-sac and they're all sat there lying and exaggerating to each other.

Tom Roberts@tpgroberts.bsky.social · 4d ago

Not to be glib, but the genuine problem with a lot of the right these days is that they are just dumb? There's just no intellectual apparatus or appetite to build one! It is just pretending to misunderstand things so you can be racist all the way down.

Chris Philp post misunderstanding what it means to have foreign born British citizens in social housing

So if you're the judge who issues an order like this to a *baby*, or the government-funded USCRI attorney who doesn't speak up, what do you do next? Go home, have dinner with your spouse, go to bed, and get up for another perfectly normal workday? What kind of life is this?

A 1-year-old baby appeared in immigration court without legal representation this week in Arizona and received an instruction: File an asylum application before the next hearing or face deportation. https://www.notus.org/immigration/baby-asylum-hearing

If anyone is still over on the bad place 🐤, I’d appreciate you giving this thread a retweet over there as I want it to be seen by as many people as possible! Arday deserves for people to know he DID run those 30 marathons And British media denied there was any evidence😢 x.com/monkemma/sta...

The wild thing about this is that, at root, this is every opinion in the UK. Me, my friends and family are real people and we should be treated with kindness and respect. Everyone else is a grifting fake taking money out of my pocket and using up resources that should be mine.

Absolutely peak British media this, "I the deserving, you the fucking pig people". Say what you like about Marie Antoinette, she at least thought the poor should have cake. Weapons grade amounts of self regard and misanthropy

Screen shot of Julie Burchill with the headline "I deserve every penny of my PIP – most people don’t" and the sub
"Julie Burchill: I spend my PIP on the expensive business of being disabled".

if you tell me "A is a bully on social media(/in print, in whatever specific scenario) but very pleasant elsewhere" you are roughly 50x likelier to convince me that they have the additional vice of cowardice than you are to convince me that they have a hidden virtue of kindness

One of the things us an industry need to stop doing is perpetuating the 'they say this on social media, but they're a sweetheart in real life' about awful people I've had other journos say this to me about some of the most pernicious grifters over the years, some of who crossed many lines this week
