Beshear isn't the problem, he's made a politically astute and legal move. The problem is that the GOP is willing to do this for a retiring, safe-seat Republican whose already resigned from the leadership. What will they be willing to do if Trump is incapacitated?

If Andy Beshear does not push this to a conclusion that either has him appointing McConnell's replacement, or McConnell reappearing, Beshear will be out of Democratic politics. We need rabble-rousers, not the same quiet, proper Dems who keep losing.

Pre-Trump establishment republicans are bad and a perhaps the single most responsible non-maga political tendency for the shitpile we’re in now. We’ll also miss them when they’re gone and replaced by groyphers.

This is the piece that is missing from all of the “Trump is going to corrupt and steal our elections, either in 2026 or 2028.” Unspoken every time that fear is voiced is “and we’re just going to let him,” which says more about the people saying it than the people they’re trying to describe.

Another reason I don’t have a lot of patience for the idea that the political response to Trump II will be “muted” is because a lot of communities have been forced to grapple with “these people want to hurt me and all they will accept is if I lay down and die”. And people *do not work that way*.

Putting aside the obvious "no he won't" aspect, the mechanics are a bit more subtle, but this whole concept of *America* promoting the use of tolls is a Brexit-level strategic own-goal. Freedom of the high seas was central to America's rise as a superpower and is essential in maintaining it.

Lindsey Graham: "I spent 4.5 hours with President Trump. Here's what I think will happen. If this deal fails, he's gonna take the Strait of Hormuz over by force. We'll charge a fee for all those who go through to pay for the operation... if Iran contests control of the strait we'll obliterate them"
