Do the "authors" using AI and LLMs not understand they're also making themselves obsolete because why the fuck would publishing pay a human being to "write" a book with AI and LLMs, when they could just generate the prompts inhouse, slap a pseudonym on it, and build their catalogue that way?

I know we attribute a lot of wrong to social media but I’m pretty sure there was once a time when someone apologising was grounds to sheathe your weapons, not stick the boot in.
Apologies: I’m not online much, I haven't paid any attention to Rod Liddle for a long time, I didn't really know his extremes. I do now: I wouldn’t have posted if I'd known. I’ve seen death of difficult people up close (and its impact on others): that’s the only reason it was on my mind as an issue.
If only I could get Widow's Bay on DVD. If only that was a dream that could come true for me somehow
I'm so giddily in love with Widow's Bay that I'm hankering for the days when you could add your location on social media but use "fictional" places, because you bet your butts I'd be a Widower!
The audacity to ask a working professional to undertake a 3 hour round trip to then read and talk to children for 1-2 hours--ON A SUNDAY--and then be snippy when the subject of payment is raised! Lady, that's a whole day! Are you being paid/compensated for your work there? Then why wouldn't I be?!
Martha's Vineyard and Widow's Bay are competing over tourist numbers so they send each others ghosts and sharks.
let's pretend: Universal announces a screenwriting contest for Jaws 5. What's your pitch?
"Today is August 4, 2026," said a second voice from the kitchen ceiling, "in the city of Allendale, California." It repeated the date three times for memory's sake. There Will Come Soft Rains, Ray Bradbury's melancholy obituary for a dead world, is set today.
It's ok to speak ill of the dead if you also shit-talked them when they were alive. And also if they massively deserve it because they were fucking abominable
You will have to prise my em-dashes from my cold, dead hands. I won’t give up a single thing available to me in the toolbox I’ve built as a writer just because of a glorified pocket calculator and its acolytes.
Friend, who chose The Amulet of Great Wealth: Haven't seen you since The Choosing, how's life? Me, who chose The Amulet of Creativity: I'm great man yeah all good super good

I hope this never, ever ends
I cannot rest from discourse. I will see that film again tomorrow. I will drink life to the lees. Again I will enjoy greatly, will suffer greatly, both with those that love me, and in Pleasantville NY. I am become a meme. Film showing: burnsfilmcenter.org/booking/the-...
Up too late watching Widow's Bay and now it's my whole life
I’m not sure whether this is just a psychological difference or AI bros fundamentally don’t understand the nature of an artistic experience, but: I don’t want a personalised film/book/podcast. I want to see/read/hear the same one as everyone else, so I can read reviews or discuss it with my friends
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
I think my favourite thing about The Odyssey--and especially the discourse around it--is that if feels like one of the few times we've had a return to something like monoculture since social media algorithms and streaming platforms began fragmenting us
oh hello, could it be @melindasalisbury.com’s latest sitting here on my lil’ ol’ coffee table? I THINK IT IS
Alexander Skarsgård's ongoing commitment to being a weird little freak in films is one of my favourite things in the whole world
Olivia Colman and Peter Dinklage create Alexander Skarsgård in the first trailer for #Wicker, shot by #TheBrutalist cinematographer Lol Crawley and arriving this October. Watch: thefilmstage.com/olivia-colma...
I truly believe my most toxic trait is thinking "I can just make that" about pretty much anything and never learning that the will-to-skill balance is incredibly out of whack
Pitching my Backrooms sequel "Frontrooms" featuring that never-used living room at Nana's house where the furniture is covered in plastic and the air smells forbidden.
Lars and the Real Girl!!!! Not a good film to watch in a heatwave when you've not enough internal moisture for tears
Classic FM serving total bangers this morning. We've already had Ride of the Valkyries and now it's Carmina Burana (aka - my wrestling theme song)
there should be a movie where Robert Pattinson plays a vampire
there's such little value placed on film (and art more widely!) by the government and businesses. it's becoming the reserve of posh kids and nepo babies now more than ever and it's going to be the death of us
On this, the only way I remember how to spell 'recommend' is using One Cow, Two Milks, which was a stupid riff I made up after learning to remember 'necessary' with One Collar, Two Sleeves
Just spelled eighth right on my first try. Maybe I'll get twelfth too before the year is out
