Every now and again its coming across my feed that Stancil et al are still arguing about boots theory and... like... how does he do it? How do they all do it? I thought I was dedicated to the posting life, to the having opinions on the internet dot com life. But I am not. I am like a baby.
Jesus Christ, streaming service exams being jealous about TikTok is real, do they not understand they're fundamentally different products?
Disney said on Wednesday that it had reached a global deal with TikTok to allow fan-created short-form videos based on its characters and franchises to appear inside the Disney+ streaming service. The tightly vetted videos will appear in Verts, a Disney+ vertical video feed.
the real unfunny timeline to think about is Tucker/Kent, Vance/Rubio, and Ossoff where the election ends up heading to the house

Thinking about that Stancil coin flip skeet again after getting my Aces cracked twice in the same night in a poker tournament in shoves where I was 80-20 favorite lol
the first reporter to tell Trump 'how dare you treat someone like that' in defense of a colleague will be a hero
Imagine thinking so little of yourself that you just let this half sentient rotten potato talk to you like this. I don't care if he's president, have some self respect.
everyone is so convinced that all AI generated images have that cruncy, upsacaled, yellow, overprocessed look but theyre just overtraining themselves on chatgpt image gens and are likely not even noticing images generated from other models
One of the things I find so off-putting about AI generated imagery is just how overgreebled it is, it always adds too much detail, and when it comes to trying to depict food, it ends up looking like it's crawling with insects or triggering trypophobia, it's extremely off-putting.
That's the default European view of the law tbh, we've had prominent lawyers and politicians with law degrees here say shit like "The Law is above Democracy" when discussing stuff like maybe letting Catalonia or the Basque country vote on seceding.
UK lawyerdom seems to have a fascinating belief that law exists somewhere outside of politics and therefore is firmly set and should not be discussed as a good or a bad.
the best vibe coders are not "vibe coding" but have basically a 100% designed spec from the start (incl. with some idea of a testing suite) and the ai is basically just doing implementation work. that is to say, they're PMs. the thing is: most PMs are bad at being PMs, and so are most coders.
I suspect that good designers make good vibecoders cuz they can make up for skills that LLMs lack. Such a person can turn a design into a functioning prototype even if the backend isn't great
Universe where things shake out such that most self-declared liberals are Napoleon tankies who come to his defense about everything and blame any criticism on British propaganda @yungdreyfusard.bsky.social
i think contemporary american slang—absolutely saturated with rationalist, economicist, biologistic, and computeristic buzzwords, and all with a smattering of direct quotations of donald trump—is very plausibly the worst slang of all time
Yes, but the AfD isn't a normal party. Parts of the party, particularly in eastern Germany, are more or less openly opposed to the constitutional order. We're not talking about people who just want a more restrictive migration policy here, some of them are outside the democratic spectrum
Normally a party on 40% would just find a coalition partner and govern.
I still think this is a genuine bag fumble from the populist right. They had a lot of elite backing for a vibe shift (general cultural change friendly to their concerns) that could have generated political popularity, giving them cover and retrenching their gains.
Pundits *thrilled* over the supposed "realignment" that had black and brown voters swinging to Trump in meaningful numbers. It was so counterintuitive! And a chance to lecture the left! Turns out the whole thing was as substantial as a fart in a breeze. Pundits were projecting their fantasies.
at the end of the day there are only a few positive reasons you go to a hospital, childbirth being the most prominent. the vast majority of interactions ppl have with healthcare is when something is wrong with them or they are checking to see ir something is wrong, social democracy cannot fix that
oh my god no it does not. Canada has maha type cranks. The UK does. Japan does, Germany does, Sweden does, India does, France does IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MATERIAL CONDITIONS OF THE SYSTEM, WHICH YES ARE BROKEN MAHA IS A EUGENICS MOVEMENT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts are amazing even now. He animated the sequence by himself for more than four months -- without computers or even an easy way to check his work. We're looking into how he did it: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/how-ray-ha...
the next president has a duty to the country to prove that “tax immunity” is a completely made up thing that doesnt exist. they need to do this through intense prosecution to signal to future leaders what will happen if they try this
FLAG: Trump gets to keep tax immunity for himself, his sons, and the Trump Organization under the new 'deal' struck by Todd Blanche. The new order also reaffirms that Trump won't have to pay any taxes he might have owed the IRS.
But I didn’t want Cadburys to taste like shite, that’s been imposed on me. Mondolez made $2.4 billion last year they could have swallowed some of the higher cocoa costs, but didn’t, and more importantly, now costs are lower, they won’t reinstate the quality will they?
I think my most genuinely unpopular take is that a widely held and genuine consumer preference for cheaper, lower-quality goods, not private equity, is driving the decline in quality of consumer goods like clothing and housewares.
that's not true, most of it comes from automated bots running Linux, so it's actually the year the internet died. when you check actual human numbers Linux goes back to it's single digit usual. font: radar.cloudflare.com/explorer?dat...

Not entirely unsurprising, but interesting nonetheless, there are nearly twice as many Steam users on Linux than on OSX according to the latest Valve hardware survey results
How do I find motivation to do anything, AI is superhuman at anything I ever was even slightly good at and I'm not really suitable for anything that will remain viable in the medium term
This may sound radical but "games are shit" is actually the median opinion of every Gamer.
A genuinely poetic description of what happens when you don't build the fucking housing. Your city gets hollowed out until it more resembles a sepulchral ruin in unusually good condition than an actual home.
"A city doesn't get hollowed out by too many visitors. It hollows out when too little of the city remains underneath them, when the thing they queued to see has been quietly sold off around them while they queued." Great piece on #Dublin by Conor McGuire in Western People.
One thing a lot of ppl don't realize is that most of the free world has liquidated the material basis for a creative slacker class, and this is a large part of why mass media has become so sterile. Your art has to pay your godawful rent from Day 1 and you can't take risks with the rent money.
What made so many cultural centers of the past - interwar Paris, 70s NYC East Side, 90s Seattle - was that young artists could live and feed themselves on a pittance, leaving them time and energy to work on their art.
Broke: using LLMs to usher in the singularity and become unimaginably rich in the process Woke: sinking your life savings into a personal rig devoted exclusively to generating AI images of yoda doing gay sex
current feelings around AI: the CEOs shoveling slop into everything should be in jail but the guys spending upwards of $60,000 on elaborate, janky home rigs to run local models for no reason other than to see if it works are engaging in a long and semi-honorable tradition of computer toucher shit
Alright guys, important meeting. We’re leaving Singapore, the students are complaining about bad rooms, no night life, and not enough women. We’re moving to Kazakhstan.
I can't
Spain clearly controls entry into the Schengen area from Africa. Almost everyone who entered Ceuta has returned. They would not have been eligible for regularisation anyway. Take your profound ignorance elsewhere.
Spain could control entry to the Schengen area from Africa but it doesn't. The ailing government in Madrid has just granted EU residency to 600,000+ undocumented migrants. This pull factor together with Spain's incompetent border control strategies have led to a very dangerous situation in #Ceuta.
soooo, you want to make remedial education more accessible? ... okay, what about giving them more places to meet people to account for their social prospects? ...er um do something about social media since it's a major cause of "fucked people up over quarantine"? ... what do you want then
There are working class and vulnerable kids who will never have the life they should have had because of school closures. Let’s address that too, shall we?
