#EventsDearBoy 19. THE PITT (1987, Marvel) A crossover so neglected there's not even a reading order for it anywhere (I'll provide one at the end of this thread!), The Pitt is the beginning of the end for Marvel's notoriously failed New Universe experiment, and also its clear highlight

#EventsDearBoy 20. DEATH OF SUPERMAN / FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND / RETURN OF SUPERMAN (1992, DC) The most famous event ever (in print) and the spiritual peak of the speculator boom, SUPERMAN #75 is also not a very good comic - the all-splash page conceit exaggerates Dan Jurgens' tendency to the static

Enough turning these animated films into live action movies. I want to see live action classics turned into animation. Gordon Gekko’s cigar exploding, turning his face black. Lawrence of Arabia imagining a sand dune as a roasted ham.

40 years ago this summer, the New Universe was unleashed to, let’s say, mixed reception. It’s definitely a bit of a trash fire, but I’ll always have a soft spot for it (one that’s admittedly largely based around the hype leading up to it, kinda like the SW prequels).

When I helped assess the H. G. Wells collection we bought at the University of Calgary, one of the delights was discovering we’d bought editions with his “picshuas” inside. Here’s a picshua from a 1905 edition of The Time Machine, currently a steal at just… $17,500

This week marks 40 years since the launch of Marvel’s New Universe imprint. I’ve written a 4-part look at the history of the imprint. Part 1 details the imprint’s development and launch, relying mainly on stories from Jim Shooter and Eliot R. Brown section244.blogspot.com/2026/06/the-...

Mark Gruenwald was the greatest influence on me, the one whose editorials made me want to get into the comics biz. The Marvel Appendix is celebrating his life today and I wrote one profile for each of his 5 best-known works.

DOCTOR: "So what seems to be the problem?" PATIENT: "Mmhbbhhggr hhruuh engghhuu." DOCTOR: "I'm sorry I can't understand, but don't worry. Great singer Bob Dylan is in town. Go see his show and no matter what ails you, you'll feel better!" PATIENT (sadly): "Ehg ddnghh m'm Bddnnn."

"I am pleased to report we are 95 percent of the way up the tenacious little hill here in Tartarus. Honestly, folks, we are so, so close. The summit is largely visible. It is nearly visible. There is a concept of visibility at play here that is impossible to ignore."

This is absolutely nuts: hackers are hijacking high-profile Instagram accounts by simply asking Meta's AI chatbot to change the email on the account. Meta's AI does it, hacker gets password reset code, they're in. A staggering security issue www.404media.co/hackers-simp...

Hackers Simply Asked Meta AI to Give Them Access to High-Profile Instagram Accounts. It Worked

The exploit shows the extreme risk of offloading technical support to AI.
