Ramon Garcia Maset
@microberamon.bsky.social
Research fellow at Oxford 🦠🧫 interested in UTIs, organoids, host-pathogen interactions, microfluidics, biofilms and AMR.
📢 We’re hiring a Research Assistant at the University of Oxford funded by The Urology Foundation (TUF). We aim to study how urination-like shear stress shapes uropathogenic E. coli behaviour, particularly bacterial filamentation, using an advanced human bladder model under flow
I might be biased, but what an excellent presentation from my partner in crime in the lab! 👏 He shared part of his PhD work on tackling P. aeruginosa biofilms using a combination of ultrasound, antibiotics, and antibiofilm agents. 🦠
Fascinating talk by Jing Yan on single-cell imaging/segmentation of microbial biofilm communities #Eurobiofilms2026
Really happy my PhD work has been published! Thank you to all who contributed! We developed a new microtissue model for bladder cancer and use it to test conventional Mitomycin C chemotherapy and a novel oncolytic virus. @jennyrohn.bsky.social @jinhuigao.bsky.social doi.org/10.1038/s414...

Honoured to have done my first viva as an external examiner yesterday in stunning Granada. What a special experience! Massive congratulations to Dr. @virpc.bsky.social 🎓🎉🍾
Excited 🎉 to receive The Urology Foundation Innovation & Research Award 2026. We want to answer a simple question: does flow matters in UTIs? We will investigate how bacteria sense and respond to urinary flow, and how shear stress shapes host-pathogen interactions in a microtissue bladder model🔬🧫
Had a fantastic time at #ESCMICGlobal2026 presenting our work on polymicrobial communities in our bladder microtissue model. Really inspiring to be part of such a dynamic and engaging meeting. We’re hoping to submit a preprint soon. Stay tuned for more 🦠-🦠-🧫
My final talk at #ESCMIDGlobal2026 was, fittingly, @microberamon.bsky.social sharing his beautiful work with polymicrobial infections in our 3D urothelial model - brilliant presentation! #UTISky
I might be biased but @jennyrohn.bsky.social absolutely crushed her talk 🥳 at #ESCMIDGlobal2026 🦠🧫 human bladder microtissue model to investigate how novel antimicrobial therapies and fluid dynamics affect UPEC survival!
Unsurprisingly an amazing talk from @nicoledenisco.bsky.social on urobiomics 🦠🧬 rUTIs go beyond UPEC (~50% polymicrobial!), with the urobiome shaping disease, from protective Lactobacillus to distinct metabolomic signatures predicting relapse!!!
Despite its worldwide prevalence, research about #UTI is sparse here at #ESCMIDGlobal2026. But managed to find a concentrated mini-population of researchers at the poster session niche—enriched for the London strain, but quite a small sample size, p values not reaching significance! #UTISky #IDSky
Really grateful to be part of this amazing community. The conference has been absolutely fantastic, with incredible science, thoughtful discussions, and a great reminder of why we do what we do. Cherry on top: the poster award! 🎉 @globaluti.bsky.social 🙌
Huge congrats to @microberamon.bsky.social for winning a poster prize at #UTIConf2026 for presenting P-FLO, his innovative urine-flow human urothelial model! #UTISky
Next, 4 posters about a wide variety of great stuff - bladder flow modelling, phage therapy, catheter UTI, virulence mapping, and the gut/bladder axis @murraybeno.bsky.social @microberamon.bsky.social @nickyuen.bsky.social @fratorelli.bsky.social #UTISky #UTICONF2026
Its been umpety-ump years since I’ve actually presented a poster myself, but @microberamon.bsky.social had so much data we needed multiple posters! Needs must. Sorry Ramón if I get anything wrong! #UTICONF2026 #UTISky
Excited to be in Nashville exploring my favorite topic: host–pathogen interactions 🦠 Our team integrates urinary microenvironment + mechanical cues (flow) in a bladder microtissue model to better evaluate antibiotic and phage therapies against UPEC Come check out poster 16! 👀 #UTICONF26 #UTISky
Here’s (most of) the Rohn Lab for the launch of globalUTI.bluesky.social UTIGA26! @nickyuen.bsky.social @microberamon.bsky.social @victoriachu.bsky.social @fratorelli.bsky.social @murraybeno.bsky.social #UTICONF26 #UTISky #UTI
After climbing Mount Kinabalu (4095.2 m!), I’m ready for my next adventure. I’m excited to share that on Monday I’ll be starting my second postdoc in the @continiclau.bsky.social group at Imperial College London.

During her PhD, Jenny found something unexpected: biofilm-deficient P. aeruginosa mutants were just as tolerant to antibiotics as the WT when grown in our cystic fibrosis lung model. But why? #MicroSky 1/n
Now, this is officially a problem. MSCA fellowships need to be competitive, but it cannot be a lottery. Time to focus on the core mission of supporting science and ditching all vanity initiatives in the Horizon Europe program. (Looking at ERC super-grants...)
Postdoc in my lab just got her letter => 96.4%(!!) = NOT funded! 😔 Comments are ridiculous: "overlaps with existing teaching commitments, raising concerns about timely execution"- there is NO teaching commitment!! + "among the risks, administrative risks are not clearly identified or addressed." 🙄
Excited to share our preprint that describes the mechanism of action of an historical infection remedy called Bald’s Eyesalve. In this preprint, we show that Bald’s Eyesalve has multifaceted mechanism of action against both S. aureus and A. baumannii (1/n).
Remember the medieval remedy we reconstructed years ago? We've now dissected the various ways it attacks and kills bacteria! Preprinted & submitted, led by @tosinorababa.bsky.social & Jess Furner-Pardoe w/ many collaborators #MicroSky #Ancientbiotics www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Less than one week to apply to this 2.5 yr PDRA! If you're passionate about biophysics #AFM #Microscopy applied to bacteria and #antimicrobial research this will be a great opportunity in the beautiful city of Sheffield. 😀 jobsite.sheffield.ac.uk/job/Research...
