Those stage mics at just about every event are not side address microphones. You have to speak into and not at the tube. Into. Not at the side of it. If you speak at the side of an SM57/8, your voice is hitting a plastic wall, screwing you (and anyone listening) over. Speak. Into. The. Tube.

What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?

I drive past Bro-Tex every single day. I remember the agents who zip tied @katiestp.bsky.social. I remember the agents who lied to my face about where they were taking her. And most importantly I remember the faces of the immigrant workers we saw getting stuffed into cargo vans and taken away.

People think that the raw emotion and organizing went away just because we aren’t getting brutalized by ICE in the streets every day. We remember every stop, every confrontation, every single scared neighbor, and we will for a long time. And we are organizing around that.

Book 151 📚 for 2026. The big one's done! Over nearly 1100 pages of text (plus another 155 pgs of TRIPLE COLUMN endnotes) tells us, in sum, that capitalism giveth & it taketh away in equal measure.* It is quite readable, but jeebers it will take time. Available everywhere, including yr #LocalLibrary.

An image of the front cover of Harvard history professor Sven Beckert's 2025 book, Capitalism: A Global History. This cover is pretty fancy-shmancy, with Renaissance-era drawings and three separate designs on the cover. The book I read had just text with gold on each side of the cover, with the title and author's name in the same font and size, with gold subtitle text.

Book 150 📚 for 2026. MPLS! St Paul! Washburn! Pillsbury! Journalists lining up behind one or the other! Intrigue! And, also, lots of details about 19th-C mills & how they built the original version of 'this hellscape.' It's kind of a dry accounting. Available everywhere, including your #LocalLibrary

I just finished the summer term with this book, which I guess is maybe my fourth time using it. It’s a good book! I’d like to do a second edition, which would involve more people buying it. So, law profs, do that! @cap-press.com will get you a review copy if you email them; they’re nice like that.

Bill Childs@billchilds.bsky.social · last yr.

Hello law professors! I happen to know this is a time when some of you are figuring out what you’re teaching next spring, or maybe even next fall! I suggest: Recreation and Risk! You will definitely be assigning the casebook with the coolest cover in your law school. recreationandrisk.com/the-book/

The cover of my book, Recreation & Risk, with a cool-ass photo of a roller coaster on it.

FUCK ICE is a winning message. And I don’t think many in the media realized how broad support for that message really is. Like, who did you think the Lutheran ladies holding clandestine no-phones ICE resistance and mutual aid meetings in church basements were gonna vote for???

Oh wow. It is almost 1. I celebrated by giving the neighborhood cats extra churus & by liking & reposting in the FEED. G’nite Minneapolis and St. Paul! Tonight I GET “patriotism”! So glad to be a citizen of Saintpaulapolis!
