Platner very much is a discernible type, but it’s not “flawed but basically decent working class joe.” It’s “prep school creep with a sadistic streak and an ironclad confidence that it will never catch up to him.“

Platner is not somebody who came from nowhere with a surge of organic support because he's a spectacular talent with the power of pure authenticity. He was recruited and coached and prompted by a gaggle of political operators, effectively picked by the campaign shop equivalent of a casting agency.
