The onus is on drivers to keep people safe in individual situations. But is on city leaders to design roadways so that these types of incidents are less common. Minneapolis is targeting zero traffic deaths by design. Helsinki hasn't had one in 21 months, by design. St Paul, it's time to commit.

I spotted this on Monday. My guess is the Hiawatha LRT detours were approved without consideration of other closures, so contractors put them up as laid out This is mainly due to the MnDOT closure(s), but the bigger issue seems to be a complete lack of coordination between agencies and departments

Uhhh thanks for the detour suggestion into the closed 24th st overpass, Met Transit 🙄 shout out to the policy of closing all public spaces Really stinks to detour at this bottleneck because going east to cedar/franklin is slow, fraught w cars, and not very obvious when to be on street vs sidewalk

you can see the new franklin ave street design with a dedicated bike path coming together east of 35, to match and link up to what exists currently on franklin west of lyndale ave. another piece of great bike infrastructure and safer streets coming to minneapolis!

The area around Hiawatha now has three blocked off pedestrian connections, all listed as 'temporary' despite one going for several years and blocking off sidewalks to the Franklin Ave light rail station A mile plus detour for people walking and rolling is unacceptable. Send in your comments

i’m mad at this vacant or condemned apartment building that keeps having fires, likely from people seeking shelter. this is going to be a problem once it starts getting really cold. why are property owners allowed to let it sit like this when there’s such a housing shortage?

Council Members Shaffer, Rainville, Vetaw, Palmisano, and Warren just voted to try and stop the City Council from even considering a moratorium on data centers in Minneapolis. Apparently some supposed DFLers are so captured by corporate interests they’re pro data centers now. Appalling.

I was handcuffed/charged with jaywalking (didn’t) holding a large camera taking a photo of street outside this McDonald’s. While detained, MPD ignored multiple burglary calls. I had to take it all the way to trial where they tried to shake me down for a plea before dismissing 1 min before trial.

Update from MPD. They credit public safety change in Uptown to a new approach. Encouraging businesses to post no trespassing signs. Big increase in police citations for people who are hanging out at McDonalds, the bus stop, or the library who aren't actually using those services or businesses.

Hey terrible news! Mn Sen. Ann Rest has cut the HCMC-saving sales tax plan from 1% to .25%, hiked the Twins’ skim (from $7m to $9m, way above current $1.1m). The sales tax will fall far short of what HCMC needs, so will do more to save the Pohlads than the hospital. assets.senate.mn/committees/2...

a last minute staff revision for the minneapolis police training & wellness center - they are proposing taking less from traffic calming, and MORE from ADA ramp replacement! it is so disgusting to see crucial community needs like this bartered away in favor of shoveling more money at MPD

one thing being lost in discourse is that rapid response networks are just a tool. they aren’t the end all, be all here. the actual goal is to connect with neighbors! and now with the leaks, they’re not being handed out like they were go talk to your neighbors to find a chat! or you can make one!

I was at of those DFL community “listening sessions” last fall just after the election, when we were all very bruised from the state snatching Fateh’s endorsement, and this was the plan he unveiled, to mass incredulity: “your troubles are over! We’re hiring INFLUENCERS!”

For those who are hedging right now on whether ICE should exist or not— the question of what would you do in 1930s Nazi Germany is here and you have a chance to answer. This is not who we are as a nation, our beloved communities deserve better.

Move Minneapolis is shutting down at the end of this month.

No snow removal on this sidewalk on MPRB property. Wednesday it was marked off as done but this section was never touched. It’s impassable for anyone with mobility issues. The sidewalk is on the pedestrian priority network No reply to my request yet and snow event done per park website

I have a grand total of zero patience left for the top paid city staff in charge of community safety not being able to answer basic questions about crime trends and personnel allocations as we deliberate our budget.

Worth watching not just because it's fun. The Frey admin choosing to implement the budget priorities of their friends over their foes is not how the council's power of the purse is supposed to work.

Our neighborhood org applied this year but was turned down. We intended to support seniors with shoveling and addressing critical path areas. The senior support program makes sense, but is focused on single family home owners. Issues go beyond just those cases, especially in majority rental areas

Wonsley amendment restored full funding to the sidewalk snow clearing pilots. Public works decided not to fully implement the first year of the pilot last year. Public works director Sexton says partnering with neighborhood orgs delivered best bang for the buck.

New construction in the Elliot Park neighborhood brought park dedication fees, which allowed us to build a new skate park with lighting in 2020 ($400k) and is now paying for additional amenities at Elliot Park and Franklin Steele, including a new youth soccer field, opening 2026 ($1.5 million)

When we do, it brings in a lot of new property tax revenue for the site, it brings in new park dedication fees, the new residents become customers at local businesses which generate local sales taxes, and new jobs are brought in from construction and maintenance.
