Queer and nerdy

Josh Turek says he didn't vote for a Democratic ticket, and instead voted republican for several races. And yet trans people are vilified for doing the same to him?

"... and US democracy is a sham". I don't the fix for this. We can work to try to remove/change the state laws that keep the 2 parties in power. But even then, there is so much power and wealth concentrated not just in individuals, but in privileged populations that don't really want to change.

True. But people also died for your right *not* to vote. 🙂🙃 If US democracy only works if almost all Black voters have to vote for a Democratic candidate that undermines and opposes their own liberation? Then Black people don't really have access to Democracy, and US democracy is a sham.

Meanwhile, earlier today Pete Hegseth bragged about how he fired 20% of the country’s generals, weeding out the ones he and Trump find disloyal to their agenda And while I hope to G-d these things aren’t related, I’m terrified that they are

Ossoff: "You played earlier the tape of Mike Collins, a sitting member of Congress and the Republican candidate for senate in Georgia, supporting the deployment of federal troops to polling places in Georgia this fall. Folks, this is a 5 alarm fire."

"It's just sports and it's a red state." "It's just medical care for trans youth." "It's just banning trans people from schools." We are here. Stop rationalizing Dems throwing trans people under the bus. Do not vote for anti trans Dems.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com · 2mo ago

Holy shit. Marcy Kaptur becomes the latest Dem to release an anti-trans ad, and its worse than all the rest combined. "I voted WITH Republicans to keep transgender ideology out of schools, and let me be clear, boys should NOT play in girls sports." This is getting out of control.

Let's talk about an excuse I'm seeing, that politicians are just using transphobic rhetoric to temporarily win conservatives and will revert to more pro-trans positions in office. So we should vote for them anyway. I've investigated governments for over 20 years. That ain't ever how it works.🧵...

Any "compromise" on trans rights is both deeply wrong in itself and lays groundwork for worse. Sports bans? Segregate us from part of public life, establish legal grounds for further discrimination. Healthcare bans for trans kids? More trans kids die and trans healthcare as a whole is endangered.

The real legacy of 9/11 is what we see happening in the US right now. Organizations purportedly formed to combat terrorism are being used by a demented sociopathic president to terrorize the citizens of the US, and turn the nation into a white supremacist dictatorship.

The current situation for the D’s is actually better than I expected back in 2021, when I saw nothing for them but a slide into irrelevance. I think my best case scenario is that both parties side into irrelevance but I don’t see a “smooth” path there (internally, or :(, the rest of the world)

I'm going to be vindicated so hard here. Don't know if they'll succeed, but they'll go to any lengths to. bylinetimes.com/2026/09/03/t...

“I think the history of sex testing is a story of sports officials constantly coming up against the reality that sex is not a binary, and that you actually just can’t neatly cleave people into two categories, even against their will.” Sex testing has fascist origins and erases our bodily diversity.

just gonna throw out a quick reminder that in America police kill a yearly average of 3 civilians per day, routinely in situations very similar to these ICE killings, and decades of explicit support for police impunity by US politicians is why ICE feels theyre able to get away with this right now

Our government is murdering the citizens of this country. They are doing it without any checks on their violence

I don't post a lot about my actual life, very difficult work trip, followed by my first case of covid ever, and then my wife suffering a bad fall has made this a remarkably stressful week. I'm really looking forward to embracing my wife again without risking making her sick.

Newsom’s behavior and the fact that many D’s want us all to support this man *today* as the next god-emperor of the US played a non significant role in me wanting to bow out of the whole “American Experiment”. He is not a future I want to look forward to.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics. It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT. It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse. Transgender care saves lives.

Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition

The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Some of y'all: Stop comparing ICE treatment of immigrants to police treatment of Black people! Me: No. How many innocent Black families today will have their door kicked in by cops, who will shoot their non-aggressive family dog, and then just leave? Psychologically, what does that do to a child?

Mekka Okereke@mekka.mekka-tech.com · last yr.

Again, something that happens to Black people all the time, that we only notice is horrific when it starts happening at 1/100th the scale, to other people.🤷🏿‍♂️ Dept of Justice officials estimate that US cops shoot 10,000 dogs a year. Is it worse when ICE kills a family dog than when cops do it?

Learning Spanish is probably the hardest thing I’ve tried in 15 years. Accepting I won’t be close to perfect at this for years is the hardest part for me. But today I had a short conversation with a woman on the bus!

This is a must read Seems all too common for a person to have some early success in life, see it as proof of their genius and downplay any luck or privilege that could have gotten them there, and then become incapable of self reflection and growth See also Dawkins, JK Rowling, etc...

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death. Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written." Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating. 🧪🧬🧫

There's already a draft policy to create a category of "transgender domestic terrorism" within the Trump administration. They could potentially classify all trans people as domestic extremists and terrorists just as Russia did.

"Text excerpt quoting Sebastian Gorka, deputy assistant to President Donald Trump and senior director for counterterrorism, stating that a new draft U.S. Counterterrorism plan addresses questions about a transgender domestic terrorism classification. The passage notes that the plan, referred to as Trump 2.0’s domestic counterterrorism plan, is being reviewed by cabinet members and principals, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, intelligence officials Tulsi Gabbard, John Radcliffe, Kash Patel, and Trump adviser Stephen Miller."

I mean that literally - no one is discussing the massive loss of rights trans people have experienced throughout the country. When Dems talk about trans women in sports, they're not just giving ground on sports. They're giving ground on everything, bc sports bans were the big issue 3 years ago.
