Medical misinformation is one those phenomenona that dispels your belief that if things get bad enough they will self-correct; people often (usually) double down on their delusions rather than admit they were wrong, even when it's actively harming them. bsky.app/profile/luck...

US child vaccination rates have plunged since before the pandemic, with kindergarten classrooms in more than 70% of counties now lacking herd immunity against measles.

Contemporary philosophy is full of inveterate Realists whereas I'm instinctually anti-realist. (Atoms, void, and class-warfare are the only primitives; everything else is fake.) But where this comes out most is that to me it's just *obvious* that metaphysical realism about moral value adds nothing.

Do you have any philosophical intuitions that seem extremely obvious to you, but are highly disagreed about? E.g. moral realism vs antirealism, separation of mind and matter, possibility of free will, objects being able to have moral standing, existence per se as a positive good for humans etc

Beliefs in conspiracies cannot be shaken by anything. Denials are interpreted as confirmations. "Full disclosure" only raises suspicions that something is being hidden. This is inherent in the logic of conspiracies.

I don't point this out nearly often enough or in a way that would connote the intensity of the feeling but I really can not convey how much I hate that self-proclaimed liberals are very often illiberal and almost never motivated by liberal political-philosophical principles.

Yeah in 2026 if you're pushing for new Nuclear I assume you're either paid by legacy energy companies or manipulated by those paid by legacy energy companies. If you're bemoaning the lack of construction in 1976, though, you're just correct to bemoan it.

say what you will about the internet, but it’s undeniably the best way to find new stupid stuff to be insane about every day
