If I wanted to protect the most prestigious and highly paid jobs for the social groups who usually hold them I'd probably design an education system that discouraged poorer children from studying the entry qualifications for these jobs as early as possible..

I cannot emphasize enough that people need to read. Anything and everything. Read shit you don't understand, read about points you don't agree with, read someone's praise AND criticism of something you love. You cannot stop learning. You cannot get lazy or complacent. Don't let them dumb you down.

What a beautiful message. If only the media highlighted this type of dignity rather than the divisive negativity that some politicians prefer, the world would be a better place.

"While summer's light still warms the waiting land, We gather gifts before they slip like sand; The sweetest hours are never ours to keep, They fade like swallows winging into sleep. So make your hay while golden days remain, For time, once lost, will not return again."

Wow, sad times. I opened my Halifax current account in 1995 as an student preparing to go off to uni. I was enticed by the student credit card with a £200 credit limit 😂 Mortgages, pension, savings, the lot. Might be time to finally move on then. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.

Perfect first day of the half term break: lazy morning, laundry out on the line, 5 mile run, a couple of hours on the sun lounger with a book, and then an al fresco dinner with a glass of chilled white wine. 🥰
