I just watched Dingomaro, a documentary about Afro-Iranians and the rich musical culture, dance, and vibrant spirit of Bandar Abbas and Hormozgan Province. It is a beautiful reminder of the simple pleasures in life, the kind we could all use a little more of.

Apart from everything else, it's really worth remembering and acknowledging that many if not most professional people really, truly do not have anything approaching a mental model of what it means to be broke and poor

I love that Instagram is how I get most of my hometown news now because for the last week it's just videos of an absolutely massive train engine called BIG BOY barreling through various mountain towns where the local hill folk come out to hand-over-heart salute its passing. I think that's nice
