In a few weeks we'll be launching our new podcast where we look at British sitcoms using their 9th episode as the starting point. A curious conceit perhaps, but by the 9th episode of any sitcom the 'sit' is generally established and the 'com' should have bedded in. Well that's the theory anyway!

I don’t think I’m ever going to get the appeal of pivoting to video for podcasts. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 20 years, and never once have I thought, my God, I need to SEE these people! I’m on a walk or doing the dishes, I don’t need video. 

That’s Life! was just incredible. Its two most famous moments are a man being movingly celebrated by the now grown Jewish children he got out of Nazi Germany & a dog saying “sausages”. No other programme has ever had that range.

Well, there’s one thing for sure - if City want to continue to cheat on an industrial scale, from now on they’re going to have to do it in the Statesville Prison (along with Gunderson, Martin, and Sally Decker).

I’ve seen the pitch document for The Day Today and it’s about a paragraph long. I paraphrase but: “This show worked brilliantly on the radio and we know what we’re doing.” A world in which that is a viable pitch document is something that we surrendered without a fight, which is so sad.
