incredible to say oh it’s harder to “disagree well” in the UK and to note that one topic where this especially applies is gender identity. because a) the new statesman has been very much part of the media trying to make that a contentious issue, actively and doggedly, for several years…

I mean, what researchers at UCL and More in Common have actually discovered here is not in fact that Britons do find it increasingly difficult to "disagree well" but actually that people are constantly being told how that censoriousness and intolerance are on the rise and are a major social problem

The first big exhibition of comics in the UK began at London’s ICA in Dec 1970. It was discussed not just in comics fanzines & the undergrounds, but in the “quality” press like The Guardian & The Times. I’ve seen few pics of it, so I was chuffed to find these Henry Grant photos at the London Museum.

New guidance - set to come into force this month - says teachers must not use materials that “encourage” pupils to question their gender.

I got this message from a mum of a boy who loves comics, on the same day I got a message from a dad who’s very ill son had his life transformed by reading comics. This stigma about comics really has to stop. It’s detrimental to children just as they’re learning how to express themselves.

Unfortunately, he has been told not to read or make comics because
"you can't learn anything from them" which annoyed him so much
