about ten years ago the estimate was that 50 per cent of women over 55 had less than $12000 in super. Even if it improves exponentially from here (and the gender pay gap suggests it won’t) there‘s still a poverty wave starting to break for multiple generations of older women

The real discussion we should have about super is how fundamentally unfair it is for women. That structural injustice was acknowledged by the architects of super at its inception, and it persists.

New research from Anglicare Sydney says the immediate cost for people leaving domestic violence has risen by 71 per cent since 2016, from $4,098 to $7,017. This including bond, transport, utilities, temporary accommodation and budget-level household set-up costs.
