This might be one of the most insane scandals in game history When Pokemon Go players scan PokeStops, theyve been unknowingly building a detailed visual model of the world which is being sold to a military contractor to build a no-GPS positioning for the new generation of unmanned killing machines

Just watched Citizen Kane for the first time and it was so good I’m furious. Things that everyone agrees are obviously good shouldn’t actually be that good. My actual favorite movie now might be Citizen goddamn Kane. Can you imagine anything more fucking embarrassing

My role in my immediate family is apparently Government Bureaucracy Understander and like... I would have personally chosen something else.

Imagine a computer like a PDP-11 but with more than 3 billion SP4T switches. The switches are various combinations of 'magic' and 'more magic' the authors of the code are dead, there are no comments except for old code, and sometimes the comments run anyway and it's wet this is biology.

Okay so why was I the only one in the theater tonight who gasped when Ryan Gosling ran a centrifuge with two tubes in the whole thing, sitting right next to each other? Sorry was I the only scientist in the film society theater tonight??

“Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital did not share how much Parton donated as part of the naming announcement. But Matt Schaefer, its president and CEO, said her support would ensure ‘every child who walks through our doors receives the treatment they deserve.’” GOD BLESS DOLLY PARTON

A children's hospital is renamed for Dolly Parton and hopes to transform pediatric care in Tennessee

Dolly Parton’s name might inspire full-throated sing-a-longs to her working woman’s anthem “9 to 5,” or evoke memories of thrilling days spent at her Dollywood theme park.

I built AIRE, a free browser tool that estimates airborne COVID risk indoors using the PMC framework. It also offers an optional “cigarette pack equivalent.” Why? Because 3% per event is abstract. Cumulative harm is easier to grasp on a familiar scale. 🧵

“Even without hospitalization, many of these infections have long-term consequences, from organ damage and immune issues to increased risks of cancer and dementia. It’s unconscionable that we aren’t doing everything we can to reduce these risks" dailyhive.com/vancouver/bc...

One easy way to know if you should support cuts to Medicaid is to ask yourself if you want your nearest hospital to be open or closed next time you need it. Then repeat the question substituting “Emergency Department,” “Trauma Center,” “Stroke Center,” “Cardiac Cath Lab,” etc.

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

Just spoke with my CDC sources. They were in tears. Budgets cut. RFJK has ordered them not to publicize bird flu symptoms in exposed workers. Not to test them. Not to speak. They know people are getting sick. And they’re being forced to stay silent. This is not just a cover-up. It's cruelty.

Listen, I know we’re entirely out of power and our party leadership is capitulating to Nazis and their average age is 97, and we lost Roe and the presidency and climate change and maybe social security and Medicare, and people are being disappeared off the streets, but why change course now?

Musk's "joke" calling Social Security recipients "vampires" reveals a lot: He sees retirees as parasites who don't deserve economic security. That's why he's going after Social Security. Trump's lies should fool no one on this front. www.salon.com/2025/03/18/e...

there is no cure for covid or long covid. Everyone is trial and erroring drugs for symptom management. However it is malpractice for your doctor to tell you there is literally nothing to try. Or if they just give you depression meds. Many people have symptom improvement from off-label medications.

i finished the book and What A Dude. absolute mad lad. lost his foot in an incident exploring the ice cap of greenland where he extricated himself from ice with a shiv made from his own feces. sheltered refugees from the nazis, was part of the danish resistance, and hung out in 1930s hollywood.

ive been reading books about arctic exploration / ice disasters / the heroic age of arctic exploration to deal with All This and may I recommend Wanderlust, by Reid Mitenbuler, a beautifully written, often funny, and carefully researched biography of Peter Freuchen, the Danish explorer in this photo

“All I know is my work is telling me I’m fired, not fired, fired, not fired. Meanwhile, the price of eggs is like 30 bucks, and there’s airplanes falling down around me.”– Kitty Sopow, former National Weather Service

ppl getting angry at this but he's talking alliances and he's 100% right- you cannot trust a country where every 4 yrs the foreign policy does a complete 180 & tears up treaties and reneges on deals and withholds payments because some sheep farmers in Wisconsin think too many black women have jobs

America is over. There is no coming back from this. If we're lucky maybe we claw back some small-l liberalism for our daily lives. But even that might be too much to hope for. The rest of the world has to move on from us. They now know that the American people can't be trusted. They're right.
