It’s cool, and not incredibly demoralizing, that the last ~25 years (? more?) have been an increasingly flagrant demonstration that The Rules, as we were brought up to understand them, just do not apply to a lot of people

a grandmotherly woman just got booted from the Trump rally for protesting, and she went out like a hero talking trash and flipping the double bird

It would really be great if folks not affiliated with the Trump Administration could stop using "Department of War." The Department of Defense is a statutory creation, and the name is statutorily given--the administration cannot unilaterally change it.

The entire Republican Party and broader conservative movement need to be smashed to bits. Donor networks gotta be exposed and disrupted. All the outside machinery needs to be dismantled. And electorally it must lose over and over and over and over. We need a truth and reconciliation commission.

The news just since I left work: -A planned livestream of an execution by firing squad -Trump basically trying to incite a pogrom against Somalis Nothing mysterious or complicated about what's happening.

On Supreme Court term limits: Sen. Susan Collins: “Absolutely not. I’m sure that Troy wants to pack the court.” Troy Jackson: “I wouldn’t have to pack it if you didn’t put in Kavanaugh."

WHOA. This is big news. Mr. Soliman is a 31-year-old gay man from Egypt who came here at 3 with a green card. He lost his green card after a conviction, but an immigration judge found that he would be persecuted in Egypt and barred sending him there. He's locked in a hotel in Equatorial Guinea now.

A federal judge has ordered the Department of Homeland Security to return Ahmed Soliman to the United States, five months after he was expelled to Equatorial Guinea, a country where he has no ties, in a decision that could have far-reaching implications for thousands of others subjected to the Trump administration’s third-country removal scheme.

Arizona District Court Judge John C. Hinderaker, a Trump appointee, ruled that DHS violated the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment and “must facilitate Plaintiff’s release from custody in Equatorial Guinea and return to the United States and must ensure his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to Equatorial Guinea.”

BREAKING: A Trump-appointed judge has ruled DHS violated the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment when it removed Ahmed Soliman to Equatorial Guinea and must facilitate his return to the US. prospect.org/2026/10/07/f...

This man is unfit in every possible sense of the word. He is the worst impulses of this nation given physical form, and it is the duty of every single one of us who actually believe in freedom and democracy to make sure he and his followers are banished from power.

Trump: "Let them hit a missile into San Diego or Los Angeles on the way. You want to see a horror show? Let them hit San Diego. Let them hit Los Angeles. You want to see some bad things happen?"

"Nobel Prize? More like Trump deserves the *Ig*-noble prize! Hi, I'm Chuck Schumer." "And I'm Hakeem Jeffries. Americans are tired of Trump's rhetoric. It's time to reach across the aisle and compromise. Will you chip in five dollars today so we can write him a letter?"

As American democracy backslides, fundamental principles of constitutional government give way. Here, we see a dictatorial administration freezing out congressional oversight *of the military*, which represents a major step in an autocratic revolution of US-style civilian-military relations.

How do I know Hegseth’s order to deny access to bases to members of Congress is about a cover up, not about safety? Because I asked for a military briefing at the embassy as a substitute and was told the policy prohibited military leaders in the region from even talking to me.

I went the NHS emergency room in London over the weekend, it was free. Free to anyone. I'd have been charged only if I was admitted to the hospital. A cart in the waiting room went by me with some nice sandwiches, and I chose one. Before I could try to pay, the cart moved on. Sandwich also free.

Midterm candidates are talking up Medicare for All, and in a poll 2 out of 3 Americans said they support it. The phrase speaks to a desire for radical change, though many don't really know what it is. n.pr/4j8TVAE
