Hull-born Amy Johnson's pioneering flight to Australia ended on this day 1930. She left Croydon Airport on 5 May and landed at Darwin, Northern Territory on 24 May, a distance of 11,000 miles.

On this day in 1883, a Czech Jewish woman was born. On the 27 Jul 1942 she was deported to Theresienstadt where she perished on the 18 Dec 1943. Out of the 1003 deported on that transport, 934 perished. Her name was Olga Schalková

22 May 1942 | The numbers 36132–37131 were assigned at Auschwitz to 1,000 Slovak Jews transferred from the Majdanek concentration camp (KL Lublin). By 15 August 1942, only 53 of them were still alive, meaning that within 12 weeks, 947 people from this transport had died in the camp (94.7%).
