On the night of 2–3 August 1944, nearly 3,000 Roma men, women and children were murdered at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Today, on European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, we honour the victims of the Roma genocide and reaffirm our duty to preserve their memory.
3 September 1878 | A Czech Jew, Bohdan Winter, was born in Prague. He arrived at #Auschwitz on 28 October 1942 in a transport of 1,866 Jews deported from #Theresienstadt ghetto. He was among 1,619 of them murdered in gas chambers after the selection.

On this day in 1883, a Czech Jewish woman was born. On the 27 Jul 1942 she was deported to Theresienstadt where she perished on the 18 Dec 1943. Out of the 1003 deported on that transport, 934 perished. Her name was Olga Schalková

22 May 1942 | The numbers 36132–37131 were assigned at Auschwitz to 1,000 Slovak Jews transferred from the Majdanek concentration camp (KL Lublin). By 15 August 1942, only 53 of them were still alive, meaning that within 12 weeks, 947 people from this transport had died in the camp (94.7%).
