What 'moderation' really means is adopting the views of a very small group of loud, centrist writers and their big business backers, and is increasingly out of step with (a) the big problems in the US and (b) the polling on what Americans say are the biggest problems they want government to fix.

like 1/3 of the country can't breathe and we've had a parasite outbreak, we're in a perma-war with Iran, but resenting what other people get and policing kids sports teams seems like a top strategy to deal with that

He's not going to accept the legitimacy of the midterms or recognize a House and maybe Senate with Democratic majorities. What if any concrete action comes of that, who knows. But that's what he's going to do and he's telegraphing it in advance to prepare support when he does it.

I wish I had any confidence dems will have the backbone to reform the court once they take back power. But Dem establishment seems to think democracy is about etiquette rather than substance

It should also be noted that the right never chases its tail this way. There are hundreds of Republican reps who have said abhorrent things, but the GOP just moves on. For some reason, Dems see it as their solemn duty to denounce any statement any Dem has ever made that is deemed problematic.

Jon Favreau is upset that Darializa Chevalier knew what Israel was going to do to Gaza too soon. That is unacceptable. You have to wait until tens of thousands of children are dead and pretend Biden's doing the best job he can for a year before you finally turn against it.

The issue is that nonpartisan, independent, and fact-based (good goals for journalism) have been replaced by centrist and equally critical of both parties, neither of which are journalistic principles. So confronted with a radical wing of the GOP, legacy media invents equally radical Dems.

I am so grateful to learn I am not alone in the excruciating pain of legacy "news" not doing news & "journalists" not doing journalism. This exchange was so painful to watch. & of course, fire all the news hounds & replace them with reality tv showrunners & performers, voila. 🤬🤮🔥

They've established a higher standard for proving discrimination than proving murder. Not only do you have to prove discrimination, but you must prove that no other motive, plausible or not, could have existed in conjunction with discriminatory intent.

as a committed centrist, it saddens me that both parties are falling captive to their extremes - the right to insurrectionist cultists who want to invade american cities, and the left to socialists who want better bus service

The absolute bottom of the journalistic barrel is people in the media chiding Scott Pelley for having the gall to confront Bilton. If you want a job licking boots, become a bootlicker. You’re not a journalist.

a VRA map that recognizes discrete and compact communities and creates districts accordingly? illegal race discrimination. packing every black person they can find i to a single district crossing the whole state? colorblindness and equal protection thank you sam alito

Louisiana House Republicans have passed a new 5-1 congressional gerrymander targeting 1 of 2 Black Dems. It packs Black voters from New Orleans to Baton Rouge in a snake-like 2nd District to make the other 5 heavily white/GOP. GOP senators already passed a similar map www.nola.com/news/politic...

Image of the Louisiana congressional map approved by state House Republicans. The map has six districts and targets one of the two seats held by black Democrats. Black Democratic voters are packed into a a 2nd District that snakes from New Orleans to Baton Rouge while the 6th District wraps around it on three sides in the latter region. The 6th would flip from majority Black and solidly Democratic to heavily white and overwhelmingly Republican.

In 2018 Dems took 41 seats. Assuming the worst outcome for gerrymandering, reduce that by 20 seats and throw in another 10 for Dem underperformance...Dems still get a majority. The redistricting fight is important, but only get R's so far

Netanyahu sucks, AIPAC sucks, but "we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby" is just code for "blame Jews." Trump wasn't forced to do this. Trump's supporters—like Kent—weren't forced to elect him and embolden him. They're not absolved of any responsibility.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.
May God bless America.
