Finally got this to the table tonight! Aaand @tappytoeclaws.bsky.social certainly has my number because she got the theme 1st try (with just the info that artists were important): the deck is 100% artists who've done Netrunner cards! Thanks for the game @cmassive13.bsky.social and of course Jerry!

A mess of a Magic board! A bunch of playtest cards spread out over a playmat, then with oversized dice rolled all over them.

Having spent years failing to successfully figure out the theme of @specialbeamcannon.bsky.social's Princess Lucrezia theme deck, I have decided to make my own. I'm not sure how esoteric my theme is, but every card *and token* fits. Sideboard is alt versions that fit. moxfield.com/decks/rqaA53...

Is this the best card game ever? Maybe. I'd certainly argue so but there's a lot of choices Is this the best card game if you're the sort of person who goes "but what if I coded up a tool to do this cool thing for my card game"? Yes, absolutely

It turns out multiple separate people had made software that scans the page for tournament results to help determine like which identities got played the most and who might make it to the top cut and so using all of them ppl have reconstructed stuff and are desperately continuing to do so

Update: the downside of netrunner being full of open source weirdos is sometimes the team behind your tournament software is one person in Germany (who we all love and appreciate) who is asleep the upside is your players include a bunch of coders now working desperately to fix things in wild ways

i spent all morning depserately struggling with the NSG stream to make it work and not be bad quality or incomplete or stuff i finally get it working suddenly, over the mic: hey we accidentally deleted the entire tournament the funniest nightmare ever

What I hate about COVID downplayers is… you won okay. In the aftermath of humanity coming together to develop the most crucial vaccines of our lifetime & collectively sacrificing to save lives, we are now less safe, less vaccinated & less empathetic than ever. You won ok. Lay down your swords.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

i know everyone has been dying for my take on emily wilson's review of nolan's odyssey and so here it is. it should be an embarrassment to whoever edited it. when a writer files copy like that, you should know how controversial it will be and go above and beyond to help them shore up their take.

One thing I never did was a post-mortem of Sir. Perhaps this is as good a time and place as any to talk about some of that. It started in 2010 when Channel 4 had some money to spend on making educational games. For some reason they asked me. ->thread

In surprising computer game news: Sir, You Are Being Hunted finally made it to console, just fourteen years after release on PC. It's out now on Switch, PS5, and Xbox. (And Steam and GoG, of course.)

"A replication attempt with a sample from a more diverse population that was over 10 times larger than the original study showed only half the effect of the original study. The replication suggested that economic background, rather than willpower, explained the other half."

Y’all talking about the 50k now vs a 50% chance at one million need to do some reading on this experiment. Children from deprived backgrounds will choose immediate gratification over the promise of larger future rewards because we have learned that future promises are unreliable.

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

“Obama was opposed to gay marriage, give it time, don’t seek perfection on trans issues from Dems.” Yeah, but gay marriage was a new right LGBT people were seeking. Sports, bathrooms, and IDs are something trans people have had for decades. Going BACKWARDS Is the opposite of the Obama comparison.

A new example of Meta shithousery. This is a post of mine on Instagram (left). Click the dots top right and this advisory note appears (right). I never use ai, never will. Why would they do this? Who benefits? Are they just trying to make viewers think everything is genAI so they just accept it?

A digital painting I posted on instagram. I didn’t use ai to create it. An Instagram advisory saying the artwork in the post is ‘likely made with AI’

Ha! I have had both Magic players and Riftbound players question my choice to only go up to 5 on my dice before adding a second, but I am vindicated by the Netrunner OPP! Seriously, folks, it's *so* much more readable. There's already so much arithmetic, don't stretch the bounds of subitization.

Screenshot of the Netrunner Organized Play Policies document:
2.2.5. Dice may be used to represent discrete values. If dice are used for
credits it is recommended to not go above values of 5 for ease of players and
judges.

Rep. Aisha Gomez: “To look at people standing up against ICE and see ‘paid protesters’ says nothing about us and everything about you.” “That you cannot conceive of us loving our neighbors so much that we would actually do something for them.”
