Oh For Sure Man

@YaleLawSch and @UTAustin, but still pretty dumb. Lawyer.

HUGE: Under Mayor Mamdani, New York City just recorded its safest first 7 months of a year in history—and its safest July ever. In July: Major crime dropped 13% Murder dropped 32% Robberies dropped 15% Vehicle thefts dropped 25% Democratic mayors are putting public safety first.

NEW: 2 people in Michigan have just died from Cyclosporiasis — the first deaths reported from the outbreak sweeping the nation. This after Taylor Farms gave *$2 million* to Trump & Republicans as they postponed a rule that could've limited the spread of outbreaks like the ongoing epidemic.

‘Explosive Diarrhea’: Company Tied to Outbreak Donated to Trump as He Delayed Food Safety Rule

Taylor Farms contributed $2 million to Trump and Republicans as they postponed a rule to help the government limit the spread of foodborne illnesses.

Absolutely true, and also the case with all the lies Republicans tell. They don’t believe what they’re saying; they don’t expect you to believe it. Republicans have only one true view, which is “fuck you, we‘re in charge.” That’s what they’re really saying when they tell obvious lies.

Genuinely everyone knows that "all domestic abusers are in jail and their partners never try and make nice with them" is false. On some level I gotta think the point of this is to revel in the power, to be seen to get away with it.

as a straight dude I agree too. it's evidence of a weak will and/or poor attachment to good values, and we've all got LGBT friends or family. more practically I've seen way too many people go batshit fucking crazy down the transphobia waterslide

Squishiness on trans rights is a dealbreaker for me because (a) it’s a straightforward issue of personal freedom and bodily autonomy much like abortion, and (b) the right is obviously coming after us cis gays next.

All the Fauci stuff is a modern day version of the POW/MIA stuff after Vietnam - a way to try to rewrite the history of a huge failure of conservative ideology to be instead a story about how liberals and foreigners stabbed us in the back.

I’ve said before that it’s probably inevitable the left will blow a race at some point but most of the centrist dooming about so-called unelectable candidates fundamentally comes from a refusal to believe that previously fringe positions are now majority positions.

Ossoff: "Each day his allies are fewer & even they no longer deny his corruption, the obscene self-dealing while he plunges nation deeper into reckless war while he rakes in billions & builds himself ballroom & prepares again to attack elections. Let's be clear, one man attempted fraud in GA: Trump"

Amen. If you go into the archives looking to confirm a hunch, you'll likely find some random bit of evidence that fits. This is why "originalism" is considered a joke by actual historians. Finding one quote from one member of the founding generation who agrees with your hot take is pretty easy!

In my historical methods training, I was always taught “we start with a historical question.” I would never use “I’m testing a hypothesis” in my work. I might have a working theory or a working hypothesis, but I’m certainly never *testing* it. That’s ripe for cherry-picked, law office history.

Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.

The difference between the standard liberal Dem suggestion of “hey you idiots, get organized if you want good things” and Mamdani’s “here, let me help you to organize to get good things” cannot be understated.
