But these days? Someone takes medication that improves their blood sugar, reduces inflammation, and supports their immune system? Watch people sneer at them as if the weight loss that goes along with that is some kind of stolen valor. Like taking meds means they didn't Atone For Being Fat.

I agree with pretty much the entire thread and will add that if you have lipedema or lymphedema, a low dose of one of these drugs can be a game changer like w other (wildly underdiagnosed, poorly understood, often estrogen-related and vilified) hormone/metabolic disorders.

Oh the complicated feelings I have about this. (Not @ Bethany, I have talked about this with Bethany before, and I think this thread captures a lot of the issues.) Part of the complexity is that everyone's biology is different & so these drugs are doing VERY different things for different folks.

He's back in the ICU with "low blood pressure" now, and frankly, this is looking like it might be it. Please, friends, if you or someone you know has a safe, comfortable, loving landing zone for his two cats, please please *please* speak up ASAP.

FRIENDS IN THE NYC AREA: Okay, this is a tough one, but please bear with me. My wife's lifelong friend has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is desperately seeking a home for his two cats when that time comes. The elder, Wally, is something like 13 years old and DELIGHTFULLY dim. The younger, Doris,

I love that everybody longingly wishes Zohran could be mayor of their city or in the White House, but trust me, there are many more Zohran’s out there in every community all over the US. So stop daydreaming and start organizing to defeat billionaire backed candidates in elections.

I finally got all the supplies to make NFC tags to automate a bunch of dumb stuff I always forget to do because it has multiple steps and I have the attention span of a gnat! Unfortunately I didn't write down all but one of the things I want to make into NFC tags!

Once you get used to it, discomfort* rocks. You can feel your brain making new connections! *-the actual discomfort of trying new stuff you won’t always like, not the forced discomfort of making yourself be around people who feel a false power in making you feel like shit

Discomfort is an essential part of growth and wouldn’t it be so embarrassing to be the exact same person thirty years from now, in a totally different world, because you were so averse to discomfort?

Once you start noticing how the incapacity to handle discomfort affects how people live their lives it's actually pretty shocking how it ruins pretty much every conceivable aspect of existence. Interpersonal relationships, romantic and platonic. Career and education opportunities. Your politics Your willingness to go anywhere. The kind of food you eat. The kind of art you expose yourself to and your ability to read it. It's never just one thing, it touches everything, and once you notice it it's like suddenly being able to see germs or something. Just this horrific catastrophe people look at you askance for screaming about. As I grow older and see what became of my friends and peers who could not learn to handle discomfort, the more I'm like. This is a genuine societal issue
