My sister was visiting and she planned to catch the bus back downtown. Fucker came 5 minutes EARLY. We were a block away and watched it zoom by. Next closest bus stop? Also watched a bus go by. Next bus at either stop: 20 minutes. Walked her to the light rail in this fucking AQI. I am OVER IT.
Can confirm Was not connected to internet and lost a page of writing and was just confused. I thought we had solved this problem
The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.
I was referring to this op-ed!! None of you wondered what the hell I was talking about? www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/o...

The A.I. revolution is stalling because companies don’t want to admit that integrating the technology is expensive and slow and requires human effort.

This jibes with my experience. I wish people would stop calling it “AI” and start calling it “predictive modeling” though. OR whatever flavor it is. It certainly isn’t intelligent, it doesn’t learn, it needs a lot of data and input and iteration.
I’d like to keep having a place to live where i can continue to only get a half night of sleep lol
I hate to have to do this again, but starting another (hopefully smaller) GFM. We are trying to start new endeavors, but we need to stay housed until then. gofund.me/f1aa8129f
A coder/former hacker I work with closely said his skills have never been in more demand because AI is a coding disaster and the number of people who know enough to fix it is dwindling (he works mainly with health care)

Alexander Siddiq is in an episode of Poirot, and even though I have watched almost none of Deep Space Nine, I am wondering when Garak will show up.
i know why pscleanair applies their calibration equation to purple air monitors (why their site might show eg green where purple air's shows yellow). but also i can literally see the haze out there, so i feel like the calibration is lying. anyway, close windows, use air cleaners, n95 if outside!

The first year we had smoke/high AQI in Seattle I ignored it/thought I wasn’t “sensitive”. Welp, turns out I am. If you feel crappy/tired/headachy guess what? You are sensitive too. Drink plenty of water.
I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
it is International Owl Awareness Day! May you now be aware of the weird and wonderful Blakiston's fish owl! 🦉
“Unhealthy for sensitive groups” really burns me up (yes pun intended). All living beings are sensitive to tiny particles (PM2.5) in smoke AND exposure is cumulative. If you have to go outside, wear an N95 mask if possible, and limit your exposure. #wasmoke
Fuck around find out
"Skyvangelist" Whitney Lynn said she "loved a captive audience," so when a plane was stuck on the ground and waiting to fly, she stood up and began preaching loudly to the passengers. Several airlines have now banned her from flying. www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2026/...
I somehow managed to get ONE mosquito bite on my arm. There might be cortisone cream in its future.
this is a nice comprehensive overview of why substack sucks and some good alternatives.
That's 100% why I created leavesubstack.com -- got tired of re-hashing the points; wanted to make a simple 1-pager.
Our flight from Seattle to Sacramento was delayed by a few hours last night, but we were rewarded with an epic sunset on Tahoma (Rainier) as it poked through the low stratus layer. The pastel peach backdrop was made possible by the horrific wildfire smoke from all the PNW fires.
If you're curious about how the right is going to try to frame the horrific fires in Spokane Washington, it looks like they plan to blame them on homeless people, local (DEM) city leadership, and state (DEM) mismanagement of forests. So, many of the same frames as the LA fires.
Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.
People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.
Went to the park this afternoon to watch the Blue Angels and also avoid the noise. It’s much better on my nervous system to be outside. After the planes were done I saw a red-tailed hawk and then we checked for the owl, who we haven’t seen in almost two weeks. It was snoozing away! Whew.
There is no version of yourself you could become that would satisfy the people who hate you. So you might as well be who you are.
New forecasts show #Seattle not only faces heat, but thick wildfire smoke this week that could bring poor to perhaps even unhealthy air quality at times :( Latest info in my ECW blog: emeraldcityweather.com/heat-wildfir... #wawx

Watching Anne with an “E” (Netflix) and man this is so painful. We are only on the 3rd episode of season 1. i don’t know if I can keep watching it.
Apparently the Blue Angels were canceled in Seattle today due to wind conditions. I didn’t find out until after I’d gone to the blueberry u-pick. Does anyone know what time they make the call whether or not to cancel?
