This #WaterfallWednesday I bring you to a falls on the flanks of Mount Adams Washington! This one is the top tier of a falls called "Hellroaring Falls"! I was surprised by the bedrock it flows over being a shade of orange! #waterfall #Hiking

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

A high alpine photo of a summit in the upper left, shrouded in clouds billowing away to it's right. The mountainsides are barren of any trees, or visible plant life. Instead there are steep slopes covered in boulders and ice.
The slopes descend from upper left to lower right. At top center below the clouds is a glacial field that fans out as it drops lower through a gap in a high ridgeline, which continues to the left with crumbling cliff faces of dark charcoal color and also deep red, that have showered the snow fields below them with rubble. The snow fields from the high ridge runs far down slope, interrupted by barren areas of scattered dark rock showing through, all the way to the bottom of the image that is dominated by a small grey green lake with snow and rock around it's shores. In the lake are several icebergs, mostly huddled against the right shore which is mostly stone and rubble plowed there long ago by a full glacier.
The mountain side above the lake and to the right is a majority of the grey and charcoal stoney and ashen rubble known as scree slopes, with only small patches of snow and ice fields that rise to a small rocky prominence that runs off to the right.
This view is from much higher than the lake, on a Ridgeline at about 8,000 feet (~2400m). The lake sits at about 7400 feet.
The sky above is a deep, almost dark blue, due to the high altitude.

The exposed rock and ridges of the upper mountain vary in color from ashy grey to charcoal, almost black. Other areas have muted yellows, and deep dark reds that are also common to intense volcanic activity that built this mountain to over 12,000 feet (3650+m).

This is a close up of the approach toward the ice cap covered summit of Mount Adams, Washington State, US. A long ascending dark rocky slope rises from near bottom left. At it's top in the center of the image, there are at least three climbers, one in a red jacket, resting at the edge of the rock slope. If the image is clicked on and enlarged, or pinch zoomed, they can be easily seen.
They are probably almost to 10,000 feet (3048m).
A Ridgeline in the white ice cap veers off after it's right edge in the photo, and descends along the right edge, and at it's base are two exposers of deep grey loose terrain called scree slopes.
The sky above is an intense dark blue due to the altitude. (2 of 2)

From the surface of the high altitude lake, an iceberg stands out of the water with a tall broad fin that has a hole in it creating a delicate ice arch, through which the opposite side of boulders and ice can be seen. That train behind the lake rises in a slope that trends up to the right corner, with separate ridges of loose dark rocky material and ice fields lying in them that also spread down to the left.
The lake water has regular small choppy waves all over it whose small crests catch the sun a little, breaking up the lake surface which is an light ashy blue grey.
The iceberg is a rough rectangular shape, with a sharp corner at it's upper left and gently curves down to an eroded right corner that slumps toward the lake. The left sides body gave on the left catches the sun and is bright white, which continues across the top facing segment on the way right. Most of the rest of the iceberg facing the camera is in shade and shows a faint blue white along the edge in shadecolor to this face, with downward dim brown streaks on either side away from the oblong hole of the arch. The bottom of the arch nearest the water is complex and some of it looks like it sits behind the arch because it catches a lot of direct sunlight, and has degraded rounded surfaces before the waterline.
Less than five minutes later the fierce half force winds pushed this iceberg to shore, where it tipped over and broke into the lake.
The sky is a cloudless dark blue.

The small island appears darker, with it's few small trees still in sunlight, but the rock of the tall spires and faces of the island are a dark grey to almost black. The islands reflection in the lake appears more mirror like in very dark blue. To the island's left, there is a small section of land almost the distance of the entire island away, with hues of green indicating shallow surface under the water.
Towering over the whole scene of the island in the lake is a sheer mountainous wall rising across the lake and up into the light blue sky overhead. From the shoreline of the giant cliff face to about one third of the way up are many green shrubs and trees clinging to places they can make do on the steep surface. The rest of the cliff face is a light tan to grey, and even some light reddish grey. Above all the plants clinging to the cliff are areas too steep or strewn with tumbled down rock to allow plants to thrive. In these areas there are many rock outcrops, and vertical cliff faces in shadow from the high Sun out of frame. Also above the plants are a few large snow fields toward the left, and one down low near the shore on the right.
U along the top of the cliffs is a mountain top to the upper left the descends a little to the left, and much more of the descending slope running to the right. A few small patches of snow cling to the base of the steepest cliffs and near the tops of the mountain slopes. The height of the mountain can be seen by how small the full grown trees look all along the upper edges.

The U.S. Secretary of Defense just stated that—so far—the war with Iran has cost $37.5 billion dollars. That's since February. That same amount is how much the United States spent on planetary science from FY2013 through FY2026 inclusive. Thirteen years of planetary science or five months of war.
