witnessing the birth of a new all timer post is such a beautiful thing
"Neal Schon but people call me Nina Simone"

Real human, NE England, largely passive Bluesky user. Wherever I go, there I am.
Liberal minded people, members of a minority or not, urgently need to get our heads round the fact that there is ALWAYS a reaction against gains in equality and not get allowed to ourselves to be seduced by the idea that it wouldn’t have happened if the less privileged group had been more discreet.
Was the LGBTQ+ movement’s pursuit of “visibility” a mistake? slate.trib.al/VSFkbOe
Another of my drums: what is a "proper job" in a service based economy and how does it differ from being in politics? So many people whose job is functionally "Microsoft Office and conversations" (that's my job!) are oddly convinced their jobs are real but everyone else needs to go down the mines
If I had spent my whole career as a newspaper columnist, whose family appeared in Debrett's peerage, I think I'd be a little more wary of saying of others that "they’re not real people" and have "never held a proper job".
Seamas is entirely right here, if you are uncomfortable with the level of immigration into Northern Ireland then it is very clear there is no level of immigration you will accept. That is not an acceptable political position. bsky.app/profile/seam...
Per most recent figures, net migration to NI *over the past 22 years* has been ~62,000 people. Only 3% of Northern Ireland’s population currently belong to an ethnic minority. Pogroms in Belfast (as with Ballymena last year) are just gutter-level "One Is One Too Many" racism, and nothing else.
Pro wrestling is fun because you just got dudes named Kenny Omega and Bad Dude Tito and we're just supposed to accept that.
The story of Icarus provides us with a valuable lesson: never fuck up real bad
The racist pogroms in the UK are going to produce even more calls for compromise and understanding with the racists’ “reasonable concerns” but that is exactly what got us here.
thank you for this thread! i had an off-the-cuff comic turned into a meme and it's such a weird feeling that my art is just being spread out there without any credit here's a version with my name on it, im fine with people using that one :)
okay here’s the rules: broad right wing: whole universe of intellectual and aesthetic traditions, many artistically fecund. fash: a great winnowing. only three or four artistically interesting lanes. bad for the soul. technically still possible. personality cult: 100% slop; good art is illegal
REACTION SPEED - Wait. Did he just say *Wompty-Dompty-Dom Centre*? SUGGESTION - He did it! He said *Wompty-Dompty-Dom Centre* like it's the most natural thing in the world.
VOLITION - You got up from this floor because of a holy vow you made sixteen years ago. With *me*. To wake up exactly 07:30 every morning until the day you die.
so I do think that when people say "but we're not built for heat here!" what they at least partially mean is "we're used to being able to sort of just ignore the weather all year around!", which is unfortunately not something you get to do when it starts being 33 degree celsius in May
One of the most psychotic legal proposals I've ever seen
🚨 BREAKING | Labour is set to impose a sweeping ban on trans people using any "single-sex space". In EHRC guidance that Labour is set to approve, trans people will be barred from accessing toilets, gyms and changing rooms that match their gender. (Source: @TheTimes)
This is an absolutely unworkable mess. It's going to end up having to be withdrawn, *probably* over cis people being 'wrongly' challenged over facilities. Given how easy it is to see that shitstorm coming…how's it been issued in this form?
Here’s what the guidance has to say about policing people’s sex.
People who deny the existence of dragons are often eaten by dragons. From within.
“That's 40 *cents*. Cents are a form of currency one hundred times smaller than the reál. I'm not even going to take this. Come back when you have 130 reál.” Isn't it... evil? The order of magnitude between what is asked of a person -- and what they have?

As some point dividing up the electorate into little blocs you have to pick and choose between is part of why Labour is in this mess. At some point you just have to make people's lives better. I'm not saying that's easy, but it's not as hard as Labour make it seem either
The thesis of this politics was that they could trade some excess votes in Waltham Forest to shore up Wigan and traditional marginals like Redditch. They lost all three!
Rational choice theorists having an absolute mare trying to comprehend the collapse of the traditional British party system. Turns out, sometimes the bus passengers cheer being driven into the ravine.
Without minimising the dire results for Labour, it’s extraordinary how chipper the Tories are. They’ve lost 500 seats from a low watermark, lost historic major councils to Lib Dems and Reform, show no signs of recovery in the esp LD areas they need to win. But MPs seem to think it’s going well.
Caught some of a Noah Wyle interview earlier where he was talking about how some fans have a show they’re making in their head and they don’t like it when the actual show deviates from that and DAMN. That’s it
The people who annoy me the most these days fall into two camps: (1) literally running the world and (2) utterly irrelevant outside of their tiny corner of social media. Reactionary centrism happens when (2) bugs you more than (1)
A tremendous loneliness comes over you. Everybody in the world is doing something without you.
Never forget that that the modern brand of fascism is built on the conspiracy theory that a woman had sex with a guy in order to get a good review for her free browser game
Weird. “Hostility to ethnic minorities en bloc” + “the social policy preferences of the craziest street preacher you can find” are not an attractive combo. Who would have guessed?
Tracking our *negative* voting intention (who would Britons vote AGAINST): ➡️ Ref 38% (+9) 🌹Lab 34% (-4) 🌳 Con 7% (-1) 🌏 Green 7% (+4) 🐦 LD 3% (-) changes w/ Nov 2025 As Reform has plateaued in the polls, the number of people saying they would also vote *against* Reform has grown
The basic argument is “would you like to survive and have institutions that work even at a basic level” and that will be refuted by a sizeable % of people saying “no”
I promise you that the government that murdered Alex Pretti and Renee Good does not give a flying fuck about the protests in Iran.
‘Coalition of socially Conservative working class voters and with middle class social liberals cannot survive an election campaign’. What does Keir Starmer think the Labour coalition is, or has ever been?
"Their willingness to welcome Galloway's divisive, sectarian politics is a sign that the Greens are not the harmless environmentalists they pretend to be and their position on legalising all drugs shows how unstable this electoral coalition is. It cannot survive a general election campaign. (5/16)
