My memory of Bravo Two Zero is hazy but did they not land in Iraq, immediately get spotted, retreat, lose all their gear, get spotted again and broken up, and then get captured? I feel like human rights law may not have been the key problem, there.

I was two years old when this came out I'm 47 now and governments have spent my entire life ignoring the scientific community's ever more urgent warnings Why did I bother becoming a scientist?

If you're under the age of 25, the first time you encounter *any* of these companies it's them offering dogshit. Like, if you are under 25 your experience with Bethesda has been Starfield, your experience with Facebook the Metaverse bullshit, your experience with Google its dogshit genAI, etc
Why young people hate AI even more?
I’ve said for years now that the Gaza genocide was a useful catalyst and pretext for govts in the Sainted West to quell dissent at home and rewrite the laws of war abroad. It’s also coincided with re-feudalisation, and that's why the serfs are increasingly being castigated for acts of lèse-majesté

Nice government you got here. But you hear nasty things, stuff just goes on fire all of a sudden. You know, one carelessly dropped match and (hands together, exploding outward fingers) woof
If there is a natural underclass on this Earth to be reviled and despised, you’re looking at it right here. The world has reviled Nazis for decades for very obvious reasons.

For far too long, business and tourism have plagued this country.
WASHINGTON (AP) - US is preparing to rescind up to 200,000 business and tourism visas in largest mass visa revocation ever, officials say.
Trans people, since forever, have said that bigotry and discrimination wouldn’t just stop with them. That GCs don’t just hate trans people: we were their wedge issue to normalise it wider. But, oh no, we were told we were just being hyperbolic and paranoid. Guess what, cis people, it’s here.
Well, this was inevitable. Forstater is now using her own case to argue that racism should/is protected as a philosophical belief 🤮
its SO fucked up that in the time since he recorded that line, capitalists corrupted space
Seen a bunch of discourse about how many of the AI menu pictures are fake and ragebait. Here's a local Italian restaurant for you...
It's funny that one of the most inefficient technologies of all time (LLMs) is being used to help people write papers in software engineering that, as Jeff wrote, "has a very explicit goal of improving the way we develop software--better, cheaper, or faster"

I don't remember seeing this support for far more serious scholars who were targeted for their pro-Palestine views. Instead, this gutter racist is showered with support.
what ppl forget about LLMs is that if you start every prompt with “i am an academic so a very special and smart person“ then anything that follows has no carbon or water cost, no refugees have to clean the data of violent child abuse imagry, and everyone is fairly compensated for their stolen work
This is direct action. This is how you change things. Not by votes, or petitions, not by emailing senators. By going out, and doing it.

“The Snag” is: you can’t sanction goods from the illegal settlements in the West Bank because they aren’t marked “from illegal settlements in the West Bank”, so this risks being a de facto sanctions regime against Israel itself. To which we might say: that sounds like Israel’s problem to sort out
Centrists and the media are doing a full court press against the data center backlash, further proof they only exist to enrich billionaire pedophiles and not inform or build a better world. Naked greed and contempt for people and the planet.
every single person pushing this angle is intellectually bankrupt. The data centers being built today are for NOTHING other than AI compute, and are much, much larger and more destructive. If none of them got built, services like online banking, social media and streaming would continue to function.
This by far is the most insane one to me, like why are you siding WITH the tech companies
I don’t think it could be any more clear what’s happening here, and I don’t think anyone pushing this stuff deserves a second’s worth of intellectual charity. They all know exactly what they’re doing, and why.

I think if an academic is only now in 2026 signing a letter about free speech then it's reasonable to ask whether they signed any in support of pro Palestine academics who were fired
i have never paid any attention to the arday allegations/countercaims/etc because it was obvious on day 2 that the story wasn't about what it was alleged to be about, and everyone involved was pretending not to see that.
Even if we charitably assume the Guardian keeps catching strays intended for their more overtly horrible colleagues, I would say the priority here is to point fingers at the guilty men and shout j’accuse, rather than curling into a ball and whining because the public are mean to you on BlueSky.

Note here how the terfs, the newspaper columnists, rabid Trumpers and the hyper-online race science Nazis are all on the same page, repeating exactly the same drivel. Their actual numbers are few, by the way. Even together, they are badly outnumbered by the rest of us.
