I need someone to tell me Victoria is rainy and miserable 7 months of the year, or I'm going to feel like an idiot for not having moved there.
The Speaker of the Nova Scotia legislature is rescinding bans issued to 36 people last month related to a protest that interrupted a budget vote in March. Danielle Barkhouse says the decision follows conversations with the public, an NS Arts Coalition rep and “broad consensus” from MLAs.
I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
New investigation from me. The 23 websites are designed to influence the answers that AI chatbots give to voters in Alberta, targeting farmers, young people, veterans, mothers and oil industry workers. www.nationalobserver.com/2026/09/04/i...
A US-linked network of fake websites is promoting Alberta separatism to AI chatbots
The websites present crude, AI-generated slop disguised as the voice of real Albertans. But they're made in Florida — and they're not even targeting Albertans directly.

It's my opinion that the relationship is irrevocably damaged for decades, but this is the first thing that made me think there could be a faster path to reconciliation.
we can repair US-Canada relations by inviting them to burn the ballroom to the ground for old time's sake
Also: with hydro from maritime link available, can't that fill the "peaker" role in the grid as well? Why did we ever need methane for this role? [not an electrical engineer]
Wow! Big news: Tim Houston says the peaker plant procurement process should be re-opened to look at battery storage. This isn't a commitment to battery storage, but it's a step back from total commitment to gas plants.
One big lesson from the past 10 years, good and bad, is that voters’ views do not form in a vacuum but are shaped by messaging, ideological sorting and straight up bullshit. This is one reason I have been skeptical of the “nobody wants a fight with Canada” reassurances. Many can be made to want it.
Republicans who see Canada as an enemy has leapt up this year, similar to how Republicans’ approval of Putin shot up in 2016. Virtually no anti-Canada US constituency before this year, and virtually no pro-Putin constituency before 2016. Out of nowhere. Now millions say that’s their position.
In this spirit, maybe chretian can give us a final handshake
"I think Canadians, and Atlantic Canadians and Newfoundlanders, the more isolated you get, the more dependent on each other, historically, we have been. So we tend to understand that someone's got a problem, it's everybody's job to help them fix it & so that's certainly true of our culture here."
There are endless studies showing this and also the financial and societal benefits of universal basic income and or housing-first policies but the U.S. never goes for any of it because it would require allowing the poor to receive benefits that the rich consider “undeserved”
“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...
For the love of God, use this incredibly rare opportunity to do something generational for Canada. Finish universal health care or something.

The Lake Ontario/Lake America thing is a profoundly stupid version of it, but in millions of other subtler ways, we are force fed American values and American ideas about the world, because American companies like Google control the internet.
