if you ever want to see something really really funny, watch any hacking scene in a Hollywood movie while sitting next to an IT security person

Me: Ok, I'm at the admin access console for the mainframe. GM: Do you roll for hacking? Me: Before I do, does the console have an attached keyboard? GM: Yes? Me: I flip it over and check for a sticky note.
Got a response to a content ingestion question that didn't feel truthy. So I went diving into the logs. Found a truthier answer that didn't support our preferred story, but it fits what out client sees & dates now line up. Glad that I still have some skills :)

Watching Terminator 2 with my 14-year-old son in the age of AI is really putting it in perspective. What's striking (and seems so unrealistic at this moment) is how willing Miles Dyson was to come around to the danger of the tools he was creating.
Staying in touch! I love that I can reach in my pocket and send words and pictures to friends whenever I'm thinking of them, instead of paying per minute to use a device attached to my wall and hope they're near their wall when I do it. (Mailing things is still fun though!)
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
Part of the problem with regularly mass deleting my posts is important things like this being lost LOL
New idea just dropped: a cat library. Like a cat cafe, but with books. Read your library book with a cat in your lap.
The number of vegetables and fruit that are available now is amazing. You can now get REAL Mexican & Chinese food. More restaurants make pasta. The ability to eat different cuisines outside large cities is amazing.

i don't like to police genre, but it's not dark academia unless somebody gets squished in one of these bad boys
The Orville ended 4 years ago today. Seth McFarlane said in March that 10 episodes have been written for season 4, but that he didn’t have time to work on the show for now. Provided that Disney gives the green light. No new New Horizons for now. USS Orville, art by Matt Tkocz:
I'm pleased to announce my new album, "Headwaters" will be out digitally and on CD on September 4. Pre-orders on Bandcamp & Ampwall begin this Friday, Sept. 7. For starters, check out this amazing artwork:
there are definitely downsides to the nuclear block but the reason I keep coming back to it as necessary and good is that it completely ruined the whole MAGA engagement model to the point that they prefer to mock us from the nazi bar rather than come here to troll us directly
Bluesky oldheads will remember that brief period of time when the conservative trolls tried to storm the place and were flummoxed by the idea they would have to organically grow an audience and that someone who didn't want to talk to them could nuke every interaction they ever had from orbit
Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
That said, let us take a moment to thank our Bluesky Trans and Furry Elders for freaking out Jack Dorsey so much he bolted and left us this nice social media playground, taking most of his crypto chuds with him. We thank you for your service.

you cannot be the most embarrassing team in the league and also have the stupidest players, this is hoarding
The whole Mariners' pen believes Babe Ruth didn't exist. Kinda want all MLB players to believe this and make the owners agree to it in next CBA

ABC used to have The Love Boat and Fantasy Island on back to back. That’s what they’ve taken from us.
It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.
How much do you wanna bet he doesn’t know that “District of Columbia” is Washington, DC
A GOP Congressman, Griffith Morgan (Virginia), has introduced a bill to strip people in Guam, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and every other US non-state territory of their birthright citizenship. www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...
BIG DEAL on voting rights this morning: Governor Spanberger just restored the voting rights of some 60,000+ Virginians. Her move reverses Youngkin's abrupt decision in 2023 to end automatic voting rights restoration, which brought Virginia back to a system of default lifetime disenfranchisement.

This is the only state that, absent action by the governor, bans people convicted of any felony from voting for life. Virginians have an opportunity to end that system for good in November.
