sometimes that adult section of our brains force us to say NO to some things we *really* wanted to say YES to and even when we *know* it was the right decision, it can still hurt, and that sucks.

Captain: "What a week, huh?"
Tintin: "Captain, it's Monday"

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

It very much feels like the premise of Verse is Epic thinking that no one is ever going to really write any code in Verse, LLMs will, and therefore prompting LLMs be the way non-technical people get things done in U6 (rather than using Blueprints). But if this is the case, why create Verse?

This kind of obvious bad faith pisses me off. LLMs do not model factual information, only token order statistics. LLM training is an intrinsically lossy process. And the models themselves are proprietary; even if they worked like libraries they move knowledge from the public to private malefactors.

I don’t want to be too sensationalist about this but also I’m the least violent person in the world and I think if someone said this to my face I’d hit them

I really think "automation" is just the wrong framework for thinking about LLMs and what they do, both in theoretical terms and as a practical matter of their use. It's just a broken analogy and it leads down the very dumb road of saying things like "oh so are you against compilers bro"

No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

AI labs buy, scan, shred millions of rare books

If you have retreated to physical books because the internet is too full of AI slop, bad news — now they’re shredding the books to feed their AI slop machines.
