all you're doing anymore when you pay a big company is paying an abuser to abuse people. you don't even get anything in exchange. you don't "get" the new halo. at any opportunity they'll deny you own it, having spent no money to let you run it for a while
if it's layoffs on ship no matter what, never pay that company for anything. why would you. your money will never reach anyone who worked on what you bought, or respected those people. you'll not be investing in anything in any sense software is on the honour system and these people have no honour

This is great advice that I should take more often. Creativity was reflex for me long before it was a skill, and it's always nice to exercise that muscle without specific direction.
