Underrated point here: when you alienate your base, you're not just losing votes. You're losing people who would campaign for you. Who would phone bank for you, knock on doors for you, tell their friends and family to vote for you. Is the hypothetical genital-obsessed centrist gonna do all that?

I finally sat down and wrote an email to the Talarico campaign. Doing nothing felt untenable. I encourage other decent Texans to communicate their disappointment. If this can help you get started, feel free to use anything that works for you

To info@JamesTalarico.com Disappointment I hope I am just one of many communications you receive expressing extreme disappointment with the campaign's position regarding transgender children. Just as it is unacceptable for the government to insert itself between women and their doctors, it is equally unacceptable for the government to insert itself between children and their doctors and parents. Supporting a bill to ban gender related surgery in children ignores the fact that this is not government's place.

I do think the reason techies go so hard on pushing this line is that they get off on telling other people the stuff they devoted their life to is less important than Computer

All my life I heard pro-US sob stories about wait times in other countries' healthcare systems. Then I became an adult with medical problems, and it turns out, specialist appointments take absurdly many months of waiting to get in the US. The discourse had me thinking I could get them in a week.
