I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
I think most people do not understand how unbelievably scary this is. It makes me sick that most of the world’s societies have ignored all of the warnings for the past 5 decades. Climate scientists have been telling us that this accelerated warming was coming, it is here now and just getting worse.
I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

As teaching staff face job loss, their bosses have netted pay rises and bought advice from a “vampiric” management consultancy, writes Prof. John Heathershaw of the University of Exeter

i was never a degrowth kind of person - i thought we should slow down but not go back - but i'm pretty much there now. we fucked up and need to redo the past 26 years.
Collapse is not coming. It's already here. Our house is burning, yet the economy remains business as usual, and the tourist stays under the umbrella. Like frogs in boiling water, we don't jump, we normalize collapse. The real crisis is our inability to buid an economy beyond capitalism. #Degrowth
“I think the growth addiction is the perfect example of this erosion of freedom. While serving human wellbeing should be our ultimate goal, we have become a means to serve the economy.” #PostGrowth #Degrowth #Sufficiency - @greeneujournal.bsky.social www.greeneuropeanjournal.eu/how-europe-c...
How Europe Can Chart Its Own Economic Path
It is often argued that, in order to keep European industries alive, we must scale back democratic standards. But is that really the only choice Europe has?

This kind of thing is why degrowth is so essential to a political program, btw. Without it, there's no brake on this endless whirlpool of exploitation. We need a political culture that says it's fine to have enough. You can stay home. Slacking off is great. Go for a walk rather than hustle more.

It’s exhausting. For years, decades, right wing media have lied and told us #climate breakdown was just woke nonsense. Now, it’s whoopsies, yes it’s real, but relax everyone & enjoy our new “Mediterranean” climate as Europe goes up in flames around us.
This is their plan. This has always been their plan. Perhaps by the end of this year we will see them argue why climate change means we need stronger borders.

“Constant lying is not about making people believe a lie, but about ensuring that no one believes anything. A people who no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between good and evil: a people deprived of the power to think,” Hannah Arendt. Are we there yet?
