Abdul El-Sayed on capitalism: “I’m capitalist who just knows about capitalism. I have a bad habit of reading, I’m so sorry.”
The thing is that in this respect the BBC, operating under a default environment of E&W defamation law, is a bit like a bunch of cats dropped onto an oceanic island of flightless birds. The BBC has had to learn to survive in a far tougher environment and that leaves a certain advantage.
Driving a car is incredibly dangerous, it should be one of the most regulated experiences on earth, and it is very upsetting to watch people who correctly don’t trust the cops turn against automated enforcement because the alternative is relying on a cop’s judgement to enforce the laws.

TIL: one singular bus is considered Mass Transit™, but an underground metro is not.
Yeah. The moderate position that gets drowned out is: Lockdowns were necessary. Lockdowns were *hard* (and probably did lasting damage). Some lockdown rules and enforcement was absurd and counterproductive
This is why you dont try to compromise or concede anything to these horrors

Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”
Reiterating that Musk's literal voter bribery last time was an unambiguous go-directly-to-jail felony, for which people have been successfully prosecuted over vastly smaller amounts. It wasn't just pouring money into a PAC, whatever one thinks of that. It was a black-letter plain-as-day crime.

People have gone to prison for comparable schemes.

Musk got away with his $1 million vote-buying scheme in 2024. Why wouldn't he try something similar this November?
at a very basic level, 'this grocery is 30 percent cheaper than other groceries' incentives people to *go to that grocery from outside of the neighborhood.* When you're trying to alleviate a food desert you may not actually want people coming in and clearing the shelves early.
Politics aside, do people believe federal government gas stations with deeply discounted prices are a good POLICY idea? What are they intended to accomplish, in your view? What problem do they solve? www.cnn.com/2026/07/09/b...
Trump promotes ‘Freedom Fuel’ stations that sell cheap gas. How they’re able to do so is unclear | CNN Business
President Donald Trump is heralding a new chain of gas stations that are selling gas for $3.479 a gallon, well below both market prices and wholesale costs.

Look I don’t mind a bit of Glonzo on data centers but I want to make one thing clear: anyone campaigning against transmission is a climate denialist and/or a wrecker.
1. Two country music legends, Willie Nelson and Tanya Tucker, are speaking out about different pieces of the same enormous industrial buildout in Texas. Tanya Tucker is speaking out against the massive transmission lines crossing private land to accommodate the state’s surging electricity demand.

"First the traitors then the invaders" is Elon Musk endorsing an open call to prioritise political murders + assassinations before violence against migrants and minorities. Still little recognition in the UK government at the persistence of the promotion of political violence - inc murder - by Musk

genuinely incredible stuff, negatively polarized against the very *idea* of objective information
It's funny how no-one ever asks where the money is coming from when you announce a cut in immigration.
It's driving me insane. The govt spends £1.4 trillion a year. Borrowing estimates are often by tens of billions over a year. But we're supposed to imagine money is budgeted to the last penny.
Christ almighty. The British obsession with itemized “pay fors” for everything is insane. This is just really not how fiscal policy or government works anywhere functional.
Also seems to be the UK government’s plan. Yay.
Once you understand that this is a model of science written by non-scientists who hate universities but love venture capital and redirecting money to political allies, everything makes a lot more sense. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/22/u...
Watching Silo S3 [mild ep1 spoilers] and it’s incredibly funny how the line “I’m in Congress, I should be allowed to know if [the military] is going to bomb Iran” was written with full seriousness but now reads as biting satire 😅

🌞Sunshine Bill Win!🌞 Today, the government announced that from 2028 all newbuild homes will come with solar panels as standard. This follows my private member’s bill last year calling for exactly that. I’m so pleased to have contributed to a meaningful law change law so early in my term as an MP.
